Wind Rover inside and Comfort & Joy outside. Additionally Peanut Butter is in the background, stern towards camera. All three Com-Pac 19's in Wama-Lama, a man made 770 foot long x 75 foot [?] x 12 foot deep cut that leads to the cut that flows clean through the town of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, creating the 'Thumb' of Wisconsin between the Bay of Green Bay [to the left] and Lake Michigan [to the right] in the picture. Yes skip technically lives on an island. I added a second floating "T" dock and now three sail boats hang out here.

Arion at Bay Springs Marina.

Bay Springs Lake a man made lake created when the dam was constructed at the Bay Springs lock, part of the Tenn Tom navigation system.  Pretty lake, no development, COE controlled.

Link for more pictures of the Marina.  Sail boats few and far between at this marina.  The smallest dock with no color on the roof area closest to shore houses the dozen or so sailing enthusiasts:

This is just another example of photo posting inability profiling. I feel that my constitutional rights have been violated, my sense of self-worth has plumetted, and I've been porposely excuded from participating in this topic. I'll be contacting the ACLU about this.
So, I'll try to describe in words:
"Koinonia" is moored in a small cove on the Long Beach Island side of Manahawkin Bay, just North of the Manahawkin Bridge. The cove faces Northwest and beautiful sunsets can be seen almost every evening. There are about 20 small sailboats moored here from Sunfish to Precision 18 to Hobie Cats and climaxing it with your writers beautiful 23, which, due to the shallow water, is moored furthest out providing a picturesque backdrop to the tree-lined horizon.
Looking at chart # 12316, you can see that we are just SE of ICW marker #65 which gives us a great view of snowbird trawlers travelling to or returning from southern waters in fall and spring.
The humble but Mighty "Koinonia" has been described by many as "the most beautiful boat in the harbor". Pardon me, but that's yacht please? She's certainly the biggest and being furthest out, when returning to her mooring she doesn't need to weave through the mooring field to sail to her mooring which is fortunate for her captain- he normally sails flawlessly right upto the mooring. Normally. We won'ttalk about the flambouyant excepteions at this time.
Due to the shape and orientation of the cove, we are protected by most winds, the worst being the NE. We are famous for our Nor'easters here and I'm proud to say the "Koinoina" has endured 65 mph winds in  one of our Nor'easters a few years ago. did I mention that she's mighty?
The mooring field here as well as the small beach is free. Because NJ is such a poilitician oppressed state (read: everyuthing costs something- even our ocean beaches are not free) when we encounter something free, an overwhelming sense of relief, freedon and overall happiness is nenjoyed by the poulace. This is clearly evident by the folks at the cove, which I have named Harry's Cove after my friend and fellow sailor Harry Smythe who moved upstairs just last year.  On the beach on any warm summer day, kids can be seen swimming, have eelgrass fights, seining for minnows and just being kids. No wifi here...no video games,no TV. This is how I remember such places when I was a kid. Sand, salt water and sun. What more does one need?
Kayaks and non- motorized small craft can be alunched from the beach and your writer regularly puts in his Alden Ocean Shell here to enjoy an hours row on the bay.Looking out on the water, many of our boats can be seen. Of course my 23 and accompanying tender, my brothers O'Day  Mariner and tender, my sons' Irwin Freespirit 21 and tender and my Force 5 .
That's about it for now. I hope I've painted an accurate picture of Harry's Cove for you. If you're ever in South Jersey, give me acll...we'll go for a sial, have a beer and you can enjoy for yourself  our best kept secret. Just don't tell anyone. OK?

Do you require special tutoring? Why don't you put a call into Glenn Beck? The ACLU will not talk to a level flying, hard drinking, red neck sailor such as yourself. "You'll ain't our type". Might as well call the elected ones. Yea, right. Like they listen...As for posting photos, your a pro! Harry's Cove is sounding like a fine place to tie up "Koinonia" she's a lucky girl.

This is the best i can do right now.

We tied up to one of the courtesy docks to do some work aloft. Took a camera and shot a few.
Pooka is normally out in the mooring field.

Now don't go ya'll go gettin yer bloomers in a wad.  The CP-16 is on the hard getting a keel repair so this is the best I could do for now.  :-D

Here is my dock.  It's a 16' pontoon boat stripped down.  I unload it like a boat and motor it to my steps and tie it off.  At the end of the season I motor back to the ramp and drive it onto the trailer and it's done.  Easy peasy.  The top of my steps have a single bolt on each side that makes a hinge of sorts and the bottom of my steps have wheels on them which roll on the deck of the dock.  So when the water level raises and lowers, my steps just roll and adjust accordingly.  Works real nice for riding out the wakes of all the motorboats too.

The steps stay there all year long.

About a mile down river and under 2 bridges, it opens up into the big part of the lake and about 1/4 mile up river, there is another big open area that's nice for sailing.

Wanted to add mine to the collection..... Not as scenic as some but it is in the back yard and 45 minutes from Port Everglades and the Atlantic.

Unfortunately my home port is my driveway; the dock is my trailer, so the scenery is a bit wanting.  Nonetheless, here is Water Witch awaiting its next venture (soon to be in the Saranac Lakes in the Adirondack Mountains).

Beautiful 23, Hideaway:
What did you use on your non-skid areas? I don't believe back in the hull #2 days they came with a contrasting color. I've toyed with doing the same with my 1985 23/2 but don't want to create a maintenance nightmare.

There are six image codes; Try the 'Direct Image Code' from Photobucket...you can always click modify the post box and delete that code if it does not work and stick with the 'Code' that produces an image on the post.

I bought some non skid sand from Home depot to mix with interlux brightside.  The only mistake I made was I deliberately added too much to the high traffic high risk slip areas by the mast and as you step aboard near the cabin.  The extra sand tends to hold the dirt/growth but I don't worry about slipping either.   It was not hard to paint -- just careful prep and lots of tape - Its been on for a number of years and is showing some signs of wear on the cockpit seats.

We had quite a time over the 4th weekend with several holy s moments.  We were getting the remnants of the hurricane and a cold front that stalled on top of us.  So we'd go sail for awhile then run for cover and return when it quit.  When Linda was boarding after one of those showers she was stepping down into the cabin when her foot slipped on the teak & holly floor and she went down hard.  Hit her head on the cabin side and got a bunch of bruises.   We did go back out after her eyes came uncrossed but that teak and holly floor has to go.

Skip - Its been so long I couldn t remember which one to post!

This is actually my neighbor's dock, and we are going to use it as the starting line for one race in the Sun Cat National Championship Regatta (http://suncatnationals.com/):

I wonder if you could use Epifane's flat varnish on the cabin floor? I've used it on all my interior teak on my 23- looks great. I used Petit Flagship on my teak and holly cabin floor...very glossy and potentially very slippery. I bought some el cheapo floor matts from Home Cheepo (about 3 bucks) and put 'em down for protection. Slip problem eliminated! And I won't have to varnish so often.
Nice of you to wait for Linda's eyes to straighen out before you went sailing again...what a guy!
Thanks for the non-skid info. I'll stick to what I have as I don't want to create more work for myself. I do like the look, however. I bet the color is Bristol Beige, eh?

Bob 23 & Tom,

Thanks for the tips.  Linda went out and bought a rubber backed rug so that has solved the problem for now.  The sole needs to be replaced as some point - too many decades of rain down the hatch I guess - It looks great now and Linda likes it.

Oh and guess what??  Mr E is fixed !! At last -- turned out it was the power pack and I didn't blow it up by sparking the plugs on the engine block.     Worked great too until we went to motor to the ramp -- It absolutely would not start  -- a first for Mr E  --  Well I ended up paddling HideAway a couple hundred feet to the ramp and with the help of the Dock Watchers Society we finally got her loaded.    It wasn't until I was washing her down that I noticed the NEW gas hose I bought had disconnected itself from the engine about 1/4 inch!!!!

The good news is you can, using a very long canoe paddle and a foot on the tiller move the boat right along  --- A 4000 lb canoe -- What a concept  eh?

Bob it was Bristol beige     Matt
