Title: Tristan Jones' Books
Post by: Greene on May 13, 2010, 08:44:49 PM
Having a lot of free time the last couple of days to read, I took Crazycarl's recommendation on Tristin  Jones' Incredible  Voyage.  This was a really enjoyable adventure to follow.  I enjoyed it enough that I downloaded another Tristan book, Saga of a Wayward Sailor.  Once again I enjoyed his style of writing and wit.  I didn't enjoy this adventure as much as Incredible Voyage, but I recommend it as well.  I'm going to have to continue reading the rest of his works in the near future.

Mike,

Tristan Jones also narrated the IMAX film about yacht racing that I think was titled Racing the Wind.  A great spectacle on IMAX screens.
He also has an interesting personal history that's worth reading about.  I'd be surprised if someone hasn't compiled a biography of Tristan by now.
The sea seems to have bred many personalities full with character, and many characters full with personality.

I had the opportunity in the 70's to meet Tristan in Madison , Wisc., he was pulling his boat from city to city, shopping mall's selling one of his books, my son and I got to spend a few minutes talking to him and getting him to sign book. He must have got them for free from publisher because there was blank pages in the middle, that was Tristan. He was sleeping in the boat to save money, money seems always had a way of eluding him.............a real seadog.........cherish the book more because of the missing pages ..............told him we were just small lake sailors, and he answered "the wind is the wind, and doesn't care what water it's blowing over"............sure made us feel good........Phil
