Title: Three feet doesn't sound like much.
Post by: Greene on April 17, 2010, 05:05:06 PM
Now that our 88 CP19 is home we got to do a side-by-side comparison with our faithful CP 16.  It is really surprising how much bigger the 19 looks.  I wouldn't guess that 3 feet of length would make that much difference.  I still like the looks of our 16 better.  I may have to listen to the Admiral and paint the hull next winter to match the 16's paint scheme.

Still 20 - 30 mph winds outside, so we're hoping for some relief in the wind patterns tomorrow for a final sail in Puppy Luff (CP16).  I really want to try out her new foiled rudder.

I own a 19 and just bought a 16 a few months ago, It's not just the length but the volume as well. Plus you will find the 19 has a harder chine (SP?) and a flatter bottom. That adds to the size of the cabin. but makes the weather helm a little harder. The 16 has a bigger cockpit which I find interesting. I prefer the look of the 19 better but maybe that is because that is what I'm used to looking at. I love the life lines and stern pulpit (nice place to mount the grill), but hate the back stay on the 19. They do sail completely different. Are you sure you can't keep them both? ANd yes you must have matching paint jobs.

PS I also think it looks deceiving on the trailer with the shorter keel. I would like to see them side by side in the water, and ps the motor works better if you but it on the back of the boat......jk

Thanks, Billy.
We've been trying to tell Mike for months now-"The motor belongs in the stern. The motor belongs in the stern." Does he listen?

And the problem with that is ... ?  :-)

btw - That is a beautiful paint job.  Was that Awlgrip or some other topside paint?  I think you did say that you painted that yourself.

The motor  comes off the trailer and goes on the boat!  Now I get it.  I thought it was the auxillary trailer power.  Geez, I guess I'll use a lot less gas in it now that I'm not running it on the interstate.  Didn't really seem to help anyway.

Mike,

Gotta say that the basket ball hoop on the foredeck is a great idea especially when sailing with teens onboard - beats a DVD player any day.

Great pics to show scale. Now you just need to put a 23 next to the 19.

Then a 25 next to the 23.... a 27 next to the 25......

Mike:
Looks like you've got the worlds first Compac Unbalanced Hull Catamaran! And look at the size of that cabin- it's the size of a house. Clever positioning of the solar panels. Man, you are talented!
