Today started out glorious. Warm, sunny and not a hint of wind. Good day to pull the cover off and get ready for our spring launch. Everything was going along nicely until I was putting the batteries in. Found a little puddle of coolant in the engine compartment. That can't be good. A little investigating finds a trickle coming from the raw water pump which is left loose after winterizing last fall. A little wiggling and lots of coolant comes out. Long story short the heat exchanger must have had some raw water left in and froze up this winter. I pulled it, yep it's scrap.
Now I get to search for a new, hopefully OEM replacement.
I may be able to help you out there if you have one of the Universal M2 12's. I am planning on taking the engine from Miss B. and hooking a gen-set to it, and using it as a hurricane back-up generator. Last hurricane we had, everyone was scrambling around looking for gasoline for their generators but almost everyone in my neighborhood had plenty of diesel fuel in their boats!
Bottom line is, I will be taking off the raw water pump and using a fan powered, air cooled radiator, so if your intrested in the heat exchanger, drop me your email or phone #, I'm sure we can work out something :).
That's exactly the engine I have!!!!
