Got the new trailer bearings installed and towed about 250 miles this Saturday without incident. Launched today while on vacation and sailed for an hour or so under the main alone. Southwest winds were 10-15 knots and there was a 3-4 foot easterly swell. Too much for a CP 16 and little experience, but there were no major issues and the boat is still in one piece. Aside from a couple short runs last fall, this is the first time sailing for five years, so it is definitely a refresher course. All in all, a good day and hopefully will have a few more before normal life takes back over.
"The boat is a stock 1980 and will not gybe without the foresail or I may need to make some adjustments."
What? Won't gybe without a foresail?
Do you have slab reefing or roll around the boom reefing? I hear that a lot of CP16 had the latter. Slab reefing is better. Anyway, tie in a reef and 15 knots should be nothing at all to handle. Glad to hear you had a good first sail.
