Check out the project 23 that is currently listed on e-Bay. No comment on the asking price.
I can't seem to find it, can you post a link?
You can see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/COMPAQ-23-GREAT-BEGINNER-BOAT-FUN-AND-EASY-TO-HANDLE_W0QQitemZ190367338789QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSailboats?hash=item2c52c71125. pretty sure that this is a boat that I was offered for $750 about a month ago. I couldn't get free to view it, and the owners donated it, to what charity I don't know. mac sells alot of boats on ebay. just make sure that all the sails and equipment listed are delivered with the boats.
If it was close by it would be a fun fixer-upper.
Compac's are great boats. To get this one up to condition of a current compac, I figure about 5 grand and lots of elbow grease. What would I replace? Stanchions, wire rigging, running rigging, go over the mast and boom really carefully. Redo (paint or expoxy paint) entire boat. Washboards, outboard. Basicly take it down to the bare hull and wood inside and look at everything. Could be a good project for the right person. Oh yeah, get rid of at least two of those fixed ports for opening ones....
I have done this with two boats, so anyone have questions- Post em here!
I recognize it too, it was posted on the Annapolis Craigslist for $1,500 then $1,000 back in September/October. It was just too long of a haul from Maryland to St. Paul, and too much work for me. If I lived within a 100 miles of thing, the story would probably be different....
I may run down there to check it out; l'm only about 2 1/2 hrs away. I've contacted the owner with directions. What am I nuts? Not a word to the admiral, guys.
Bob23
No Bob, you're not nuts. If it wasn't so far away, I would give it a good look. I like to "bring them back" almost as much as I like to sail them. Done several. My 23 is too new to need much, and I miss the before/after process.
Brack:
If I buy it, I may pick your brain for help. In locating a good divorce lawyer!
Bob23
LOL. Bob you have to convince her that it is an investment. An item that will be carefully restored during your slow season for profitable resale. Of course you will have to hide her from Lady K, you sure don't need any kind of jealousy hex.
If I am successful with a story like that then I would be able to invest in that SATAjet 3000B HVLP gun I've been wanting. Hey, have to have it to shoot a high quality catalyzed polyurethane. It's the way I get approval to buy all my tools.
You guys are really nuts. Take it from someone who has two boats....two boats is too much! :)

?? Too many boats? Is that even possible? :)
When I finally get caught up with the half finished furniture projects, this will be the next project in the shop. For scalloping and bay fishing. Will share Arion's lightly used 9.9.

Geez, if 2 is too many, what do I do with my other 9?
Brackish, that's awesome. Not sure whether to be more impressed that you can build such a boat or that you might actually go scalloping.
Brack:
Good point about Lady K. Maybe she would like the company? In any event, maybe it's best not to temp her...I depend on her when I'm out on the water. Heck, she's one of the only females in this world that would put up with me, let alone make me look good- not an easy feat!
Newt:
Correction: Two boats ain't too much. Counting the Force 5, the Alden Ocean Shell and the tender, I have 4. Or 5, depending on how I count.
Now, two women, well that's way too much! I can barely handle one!
All:
The worse thing is, I have a friend who would let me keep the 23 on his property and, given enough Tequila, would swear to secrecy! Why, he'd even help me fix her up!
Bob23- the crazy captain!

They say these composites are easy to build. Time will tell. Mine will have a flat foredeck and tiller steer, better for the intended purpose.
"Might" go scalloping? I've been dragging them out of the St. Joe Bay 39 of 41 years. The only time I missed was when hurricanes were coming through.

The "where" is currently my problem. I have 3/4 acre lot, but a couple of years ago a few self proclaimed, self elected, arbiters of conduct, taste, and value managed to get a covenant passed disallowing trailered boats on the properties. Rather than fighting it legally, I'm planning to move to the country.
We ought to start a club- owners of multiple boat anonymous...I'll start. Hi my name is Mark, and I love to fix up old boats....
Brack:
Yeah, they tried to do that here in NJ. I live in Ocean County so someone eventually saw the futility of trying to prevent trailered boats in "Ocean County" ...they gave up. Of course, there are trailered boats and then there are trailered Compacs. A thing of beauty, even when on a trailer!
Bob23
(ps: I forgot...I also have 2 Sunfish sailboats.) I don't have a problem, do I?
Aha! And they say we are a free country and need to fight to keep the rest of the world free.
