Title: 27/2 head problem
Post by: charlotteopal on August 08, 2009, 09:26:44 AM
We seem to have a problem with either seawater or tank waste coming back into the toilet after we pumped it completely out.  We leave the lever on the no water side, but it still comes in (fills about 1/4 of the basin each time).  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem.  It makes no difference if the waste tank is empty.

Sounds like the choker (or is it Joker) valve, a pretty easy repair. Just buy a rebuild kit for the head and follow the instructions.

Owned a 27/2 for 11 years.  It is a must to have a loop for both the intake (3/4") hose and the waste pumpout hose (1.5") that are substantially above the waterline and also fitted with siphon vacuum breaker valves.  If your installation has the intake hose below or near the waterline, esp. when heeling to starboard, you must install a high loop on the starboard cockpit locker bulkhead with a siphon breaker valve.
