Title: Compac 27 trailer
Post by: Catalina9405 on September 26, 2008, 11:54:46 PM
Hello all,

I would like to thank Tim at Carlyle Lake for letting me go for a sail on Nomad.

I am now in the market for a 27.  I will also need a trailer which most seem not to come with.  I am either looking for a used one that is not needed or would like photos, and if possible some dimensions from those who have trailers.  I am planning on building my own if I can not find a decent used one.

Thanks,
Chad

I have trailered our 27 from home in Colorado to as far as Mexico and Washington. It aint easy but it's doable. We never ramp launch in saltwater, always either a travelift or hoist. Never put the trailer in the saltwater. Ramp launching is a bitch anyway. Whatever you do invest in top quality axels/hubs/brakes. I have a surge brake and it works very well, once you learn to use it. A strong diesel powered tow vehicle is a must. I use a Dodge 2500 with the Cummins. Also put an exhaust brake on it, best $1,300 I ever spent. I'll try and get some more pictures in the morning but here is what she looks like on the trailer behind my truck.

Thanks for the information.  I will be using the trailer to pick up the boat for travel to my home lake, then it will be to ramp launch and retrieve once each year as there is no marina with haul service on my lake.

I have potentially found a powerboat trailer that I will be converting.  I would like to know the following if you could provide them.

Height of each of the pads from the keel support and the width between each of them.

How wide is the keel?

What is the overall length of the trailer?

The trailer is 26' 6" overall from hitch to rear.
The keel is anywhere from an inch to about 6 inches wide.
The pads from font to rear are
1: 28 wide at the top 32 overall length
2: 80 wide at the top  28 overall length
3: 60 wide at the top 36 overall length

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information.  This helps a lot.  I am going to be looking at a powerboat trailer this week to consider converting.
