Title: Getting Itchy.... Who's sailing now?
Post by: KPL on March 31, 2008, 10:09:07 AM
Well, there's only about 12 inches of snow around the trailer, and there is a little open water on the lake.  I'm getting real itchy to get the boat wet.  Hopefully 3 weeks and the ice will be out....

How are you all making out after the winter?  Any of your northerners got the boat in yet?

I guess the northerners are still digging out. Here in florida we went from winter to summer. I guess I missed spring. Hope your sailing soon. BILL

I can go anytime now.  I will probably wait for the town to "float" the dock before I hit the ramp.  Give it a week or two.

Still on the hard here in NJ. Due to an upcoming rotator cuff surgery, this summers sailing season may pass me by. I'll have to crew on others boats; mine may not see water until August or September which gives me about 2 months to sail.
I'm gonna rig the Walker Bay dinghy with an old sail rig from another dinghy just to get out on the water. Of course, theres always rowing. Gotta do that before I go under the knife...

Snow is almost gone here in SE Wisconsin.....FLOODIING alot though.   Docks under water and not much ramp showing.

At least Saturday it is suppose to be 60 and I can take the tarp off and work on my boat.
Building my own NACA 0014 foil rudder.  Almost done ....along with a list of 13 other things to do to the boat this Spring.

Looking forward to getting her wet again.  SOON !!!!!

I'm all itchy to go sailing too.  Bought the Seaman Deuce in December, right before my rotator cuff surgery, and have been watching it and wondering.  Have used the downtimet sails cleaned and patched, and purchased some odds and ends.  Hopefully I'll get clearance for sailing from the Ortho Doc on my 28 April visit.

Bob23 - good luck with your recovery.  Just remember to do your exercises (I have 22 sets of exercises x 20 times x 2 daily).  After a do-over on a knee surgery because "I knew better than the doctor" I learned to stop, look and listen  - no matter how hard I want to sail, kayak, or don my FF gear for the VFD.

Good luck Bob, I'll add you to my prayer list. Keep us informed of your recovery.

A few weeks ago, I went to the lake only to find a dragline and a sign saying that the ramp would be "closed for construction for the next THREE MONTHS"!!
By then it will be too hot and without wind... I will have to explore other options...
The South Shore at New Orleans, or perhaps the Mississippi Gulf at Biloxi...
I have been so spoiled by the convenience... all the other local ramps involve a LONG motor out to the lake.  WAAHH!

Arkansas isn't to bad if your not in a flood plain.  I was on lake dardanell last week and had a good wind and nice wave action.  Plan on going out this tuesday.

Thank you, Ick and Seaman:
I was forced to postpone the surgery until June 25th due to my current workload. That's good for two reasons: It's nice to be busy in the construction business during this housing crisis thing, and more importantly, "Koinonia" may take her first dip of the season in about 2 weeks. Yeah!!
Thanks, Ick, for keeping me on your prayer list. On 10/30/06 I had the left rotator cuff done; recovering fine even though it was one of the worst the doc had ever seen. But, of course, like most guys, I don't like to sit still. Went back to work (the bills jut keep on comin') and overused the right arm, tore it a bit (not as bad as the left, but still a good one) and it affected my rowing last summer a little. I tentatively plan to sail until about June 13, pull the ship out on June 14 and put her to bed for the year.
One of my customers has a sunfish which I get ready for him every spring. This year, I think I should do a shakedown cruise- this week!
Ick, I hope we get to meet sometime. If I'm ever gonna take a trip to NY, I'll let you know...best to you and your family, Bob23 with Koinoni uncovered!!!!!
