Title: Where do you stow your table?
Post by: kchunk on March 25, 2008, 09:39:08 PM
We are yet to use the portable cabin table. For the first few weeks we had the boat I just left it up in the v-berth where it was when I bought the boat. Needing a little extra space, I moved it atop the storage box under the companion way step, but I've found this to be an even more inconvenient place. Is there a place where this thing is supposed to be stored?

Yeah, I store mine in a spare bedroom in my house. I can't find a convenient place to store it on board. I'm devising a different table arrangement using something hinged to the port bulkhead...or something like that anyway.
In nice weather, I like to dine in the cockpit. Recently in Small Craft Advisor, they had an article about making a table that straddles the tiller. I'll probably invent something like that.
At least I have a nice piece of teak plywood to work with!
Storage is deffinitely a problem on these 23's. But they are so much fun to sail!

We just use a hatch board for a table if we need one.  Saturday we are going on one of our 300 yard cruises.   Motor out 300 yds into Boca Ciega bay throw out the hook, break out the wine and a stinky cigar.  Maybe grille a steak or two and listen to Prairie Home Companion.   Sail a bit Sunday morning before I get to teach an on the water sailing class.   Can' t wait--- Oh the hatchboard will be used as our cockpit dinning room table-- works great & stores easy.

My table is stored on the headliner in the forward part of the v-berth.  I built a frame for it out of teak (which my assistant is showing in the photo prior to mounting).

The table slides into place.  To keep it snug I lined the slot that it slides into with polyurethane weather stripping.

The only drawback is if water drips through the ventilation hole in the deck (which I keep plugged anyway) it would drip onto the table.

The table leg is mounted to the bulkhead with two inexpensive nylon clips.

I should have looked at my own web page

There are some photos of the table top stored on the headliner.
