   Any one out there in Compacland up for a get together in Bernegat Bay (NJ) this summer? Let's talk. A few of us got together last summer at Tice's shoals. Had a great time! Let's do it again!!
   Again, open to both kinds of sailors- those who are compac owners and those who wished they were!!

I don't know Bob...the only good things from Jersey is the Jersey tomatoes and corn. How about a FL convergence? I just towed my new-to-me 23 400 miles in the opposite direction of Jersey  :)

BTW...things are coming great with the new boat! I probably should have rung the wires up the mast before stepping it, but I needed to get it off the trailer ASAP. Got the motor purring beautifully and tomorrow we might actually get her under sail! Man, I love this boat more than I thought I would!

   We have the best blueberries in the universe here in NJ. Too bad people only know us for our crooked policitcians- we do have a lot of them. I thing we grow them here as seedlings and export to other states. This is a great state with a rich sailing heritage. The melonseed skiff has it's roots about 10 miles from my town.
   Florida? Too darned hot. Couldn't go now because I'm too busy at work. When do you plan the Florida convergence?
   Best of luck with the boat. Does she have a name? The 23 just seems like an old friend that will take care of her crew no matter what.

Howdy Bob...

The name on the boat is Ohana. I understand there are a couple ways to "properly" re-name a boat. One being the whole ceremony thing to the god of Poseidon or Neptune. And the other being capturing your boat on the high seas. While both sound fun, I kind of like the name, and it's appropriate for our situation here.

A couple more things to add to your list there. Don't forget Springsteen and, of course, Jersey girls! I grew up in Philly and used to vacation down the shore as a kid. Where abouts you in NJ?

   There was some discussion on this site some time ago about name change. I changed the name of my 23 from "Septembers Love" (yuk) to "Koinonia". As legend has it, one is either to walk around or row around the ship twice in a counter-clockwise direction, depending if she is in the water or on the hard. Iv'e heard talk of having a virgin pee on the bow but that sounded a bit harder than rowing. Might be a tough explanation to my jersey girl wife why I had another women on board at all! The row was safer, by far.
   I live in Manahawin, about 9 miles west of Long Beach Island. Where did you vacation?

I am game for the compac convergence 2008.  I live on a lagoon in Tuckerton,NJ., behind the Grape Vine Restaurant.  I have enjoyed sailing to Tices shoal before but not in my newly acquired CP-16.  Should be able to walk in after anchoring with just a 16 in draft.  Count me in and thanks for the invite.

Wish you luck on your Convergence 2008.,   sorry we will not be able to make it.  However if anyone is on the borderline of to far.  We are having a Rendezvous at Carlyle Lake, Il on August 8 thru 10th 2008  All com-pacs welcome.

  Tice's Shoals can get busy in the summer but according to the charts, further south towards Island Beach State Park there is good enough water for us shoal-drafters.
  So far, 3 or 4 of us will be there.

Sounds good to me Bob. Looking forward to the get together.  I thought that Tice's shoal was at Island State Park?  Anywhere is OK with me except the inlet.  The last time I saw it it was moving like roaring rapids. Not sure a CP-16 (at least with me driving it) would be safe in there.

   Tice's Shoals is at IBSP. There is one area where most of the boats anchor up for the day-it get's real crowded there in the summer. A bit furhter south, there is plenty of water (not that you'll need it in the 16), less anchor lines to contend with and you can still walk through the dunes to the ocean. It's so great, you won't even know you are in NJ. But I hear that Corzine may put up a toll booth soon! What a guy!!
   The inlet currents can move at 4 knots easily... a little tricky. I've rowed in it and you have to be alert.
   Looking forward to the Comp-con '08. As soon as we can get our stuff together, we'll decide on a date. So far, we have my 23, your 16, my friend Kevin's Seaward22, and a Morgan 30. Quite a mix, eh?
   I hear the Grapevine has a killer pizza. True?

i would like to converge this summer. I have a Horizon cat that I bought last year. Had a lot of fun past Summer and looking forward to sailing season. I have the boat Figaro on a lagoon in Beach Heaven West and would like to know more.

   The last Comp-Con was informal (ie. no itinerary at all except to get together at Tice's shoals with our boats and have fun.) Somewhere on this site a nice photo spread was done. Might be in the 19 section as my freind Kevin who did the spread at that time had a 19.
   Looking forward to seeing you and your Horizon cat. I've never been on one before-they look great! I myself sail a 23 which I keep moored in Surf City just North of Hocstrassers during the summer. She's in that little cove at the end of N. 2nd. St. in Surf City. We should get together on the water some time. Is your boat in or do you pull her for the winter?
   Somewhere in BHW there is another 23. Dark blue hull, if I remember correctly.

To all potential Comp-con 2008 attendees:
   I guess in the next coming weeks we'll suggest a weekend whe it will be held. As you have probably guessed, this is super low key. We'll eat, swim in the Mighty Atlantic, have a few beers and generally have a great time. As someone has said, "Anytime on the water is time well spent." Who said that? Me, I think.
   And the Comp-Con 2008 is open to both kinds of sailors: Compac owners and those who someday will be. Just kidding. There should be quite a variety of ships present. Compacs, Skipper 20, Morgan 30, Seaward 22, Tom's Horizon Cat, which I am looking forward to seeing and sailing, just to name a few.
  So come with fun in mind...and tune up your vocal cords- maybe we'll sing some good old whaling songs!

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
   Yeah, that got your attention. For a tentative date, how about Saturday, August 16th? Looks like a full moon will set on Saturday morning, at about 5:30 which will mean all Friday night will be illuminated, God willing.
   This could be a Friday to Saturday convergence or Sat. to Sunday or Friday to Sunday! As I mentioned.... no real schedule...come and go as you please. Isn't that what sailing is all about? Relaxation and a freedom from schedules (at least temporarily)?
   Write back with feedback on this date- it's certainly not cast in concrete!

You found me again. I'm the 23 w/a dark blue hull from BHW. I really wished I made last years trip to Tice's. My crew decided it was going to be too rough to stay(Very breezy day/night). I've already got the green light for this years trip with or without the crew! I'm just getting the boat ready for another great season. I'll be in the water in 2 to 3 weeks.
I got a new main from Moorhouse near the end of last season and didn't get nearly enough time on it. What a difference. Are you moored off the cove with all the sunfish's? I sometimes launch mine there as well. I also anchor over there off of south 2nd when I don't feel like going to the ship bottom sand bar.

Can't wait to sail again

   Yes, I remember seeing you over there a couple of years ago. Maybe back in my Seapearl days. My Pearl had Tanbark sails (also Moorehouse) Do you recall?
   Yes, that's me moored in the cove, the furthest one out. She carries a white riding sail while moored. We also have a sunfish there and my son moors his 1970 Irwin Freespirit sloop there. And a old wood rowboat.
   FYI- the unofficial name of the cove is Swan Cove. I see swans there every winter, the cove had no name so it seemed to fit!
   If you are ever over there, I drive a green Tundra. Stop and say Hi. Hope to see you at the convergence!

Thanks.  I hope I can make it.  This year has been insanely busy but maybe things will be more normal then.

Since things kinda fell apart as 'Real Life' took its toll on the 'Sailing Life'.
We are looking to set another date for some time in July.
