does anyone know of any publication dedicated to the daysailer or trailer sailboats. my wife got me "Sail" magazine and although its interesting, its pretty much about the larger yachts. thanks "kickinbug"

I was hoping to find a club for trailer sailors here in Calif. but none exist that I know of. I did read of a "west cost trailer association " in Florida, sounds like a pretty active group.
May be we should start a nation wide "trailer sail boat association"

I've been getting small craft advisor for two years now (gift from my wife) and I love it. Great articles, things I can actually see myself doing (mostly). Although not exclusively trailer sailors, I think it captures the genre well.
I'm stopping my subscription to chartering world (Cruising World) after 5 years. The boats are fun to look at, but when they consider a $250,000 boat an affordable first boat, it's not a language I understand.....
LOL. KPL, I totally agree. I quite literally do this ::) when I see #'s like that!! I also subscribe to "Sail" for some good reading and what latest equipment is out there I can't afford. But, it's nice to know it's there. "Sail" is a perpetual gift subscription from somebody I know.
I still go to the bookstore to purchase "Small Craft Advisor" but will soon get a gift subscription to that. Hint, hint. If my wife should be reading this. ;)
Some friends at work recently got me a subscription to "Good Old Boat." I have also enjoyed that one as it is very practical. Has some good photos and stories in it, as well. Most of the vessels are under 40 feet. Some are trailerable size.
I have recently found "Small Craft Advisor" to be a little dangerous for me and my family. (Wink wink nudge nudge). I read about the Water Tribe Everglades Adventure with great interest. The Core Sound 17 has piqued my interest so much so that "Little Wing" is feeling a bit jealous. I have to admit I'm feeling very guilty for even looking at another. For shame.
paul i checked out the web site for small craft and read some of their sample articles. did you see the one about racing small cruisers-----seems our compacs are a little slow. i dont know about you but i bought mine to enjoy the expierence of sailing, the quiet, the wind, the water, the feel of the boat as she heals and the constant learning it affords. im sure a lot of us can attest, shes fast enough for me. thanks buddy

I agree with you, I too just want the pleasure of sailing, my wife and I enjoy our Eclipse 21 but it would be more enjoyable to be a part of trailer sailing group, having different locations and dates to sail with others with the same interest to me would be fun.
What I see in the "big boys world" with their high dollar yachts and yacht clubs is not for me.
I cant find any clubs here in Southern Calif. as yet.
hey glen shame the country seperates us. it would be fun to get out on the lake and "race" you. i always say that sailing has to be a lot like flying a glider---quiet, beautiful, challenging, sometimes exciting, and always in tune with nature.I'm 55 and a retired copper and bought the boat for my wife sarah and i to share. i dont know why i ever got out of sail. my last boat was a little chrysler mutineer and we loved it. i saw my first compac 16 at a boat show in stlouis shortly after we were married in 78 and damned near bought it on the spot. who would have thought that near 30 years later i would find one of the little gems. if you ever get out this way give me a yell and maybe we can go to lake carlyle.
I agree on comments made on "Small Craft Advisor" and I also like the "Good Old Boat" which has some trailer sailor boat articles and features sailors who do their own work on their boats.
If a trailer sailor group can not be found locally perhaps you could search for a Cal 22 group. The boat is made in the thousands and I understand there are owner's groups just about everywhere. You may not be as fast but every fleet needs a safety boat to trail the fleet and pick up MOB's.

We're on the same page regarding the joys of sailing our little boats. She's just jealous of the "adventure" the Watertribe offers. There is absolutely no doubt that adventure can be had in CP-16's as well as serenity. There are so many factors that contribute to each end of the spectrum. Some are controllable while others aren't. There are some wonderful articles written on the subject, some of which may be found in the "Articles" section of this forum. The above mentioned mags are also chocked full of them, too. Winter is a great time to read up on such and dream and plan upcoming adventures.
