I have begun varnishing the wooden coaming (the pad the winch is planted on) and found that the sheet chafes on the wood before turning around the winch. Maybe the cut of my sail requires my lead to be placed in a position that leads to this problem. Anyways, if you are experiencing this same effect, Taco Metals (whose products can be found in a West Marine catalog) has a quarter-moon-shaped stainless strip that fits nicely over the outboard edge of the coaming giving a nice, rounded surface for the sheet to run across rather than against the wood. It is a handsome addition to boot. Just wanted to pass that on.

Yes that is what I fitted too the combing edge on my C-P 19 for ware protection of the fiberglass from the head sail sheets rubbing as they turn at the 'sliding blocks', up and over to the winch.
No grooves here...groovy! Good info skip.
