Title: CP 16 DEPTH GAUGE
Post by: DOUG142 on June 03, 2007, 06:59:32 PM
HAS ANYONE INSTALLED A DEPTH GAUGE IN A CP16?  INSIDE THE HULL AND IT SIGNALS THRU THE HULL?  MY LAST SAILBOAT I PUT ON IN I HUNG IT OFF THE TRANSOM BUT IT KEPT GETTING IN THE RUDDERS WAY TILL I NOTCHED THE RUDDER....DON'T WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN!
THANKS,
DOUG

On my C-P 19 I popped in two 2 inch 'heads' right Through the bottom. Just ahead of the keel on either side. Gooped up with 3-M 5200 and years later and 1400 or so sea miles I have no problems. The unit installed was a Raymarine Bi-Data 40 instrument. A very nice piece of equipment. I do like the fact that the 'heads' barely stick out past the bottom of the hull into the slip stream. Nearly zero drag. Not much power used up either.

I had considered a 'shoot through the hull' but I think that is kind of hokey.  skip.

I have installed depth gauges on both a CP16 and a CP23.  I just put the transducer in the locker just above the front of the keel and buried it in silicon caulk.  Lasts for years, and no holes to drill in the hull.

Happy Gauging
