I'm just wondering what magazines you other Compac-tors out there read? I myself subscribe to Messing About in Boats, Small Craft Advisor, and Good Old Boat. All are good in there own rite. I'd be hard-pressed to cancel any of these because they cover different ground.
Post back, folks. Might be interesting!!!
Skip reads
Working Boat, WoodenBoat, Good Old Boat, Small Craft Advisor, Sail and Sailing,
And many from overseas when these filter from the muck-itty-mucks in the office upstairs down to the lunch room at work at Palmer-Johnson Yachts. I like the UK ones the best.
I also like woodenboat but it's a little pricey and I can't subscribe to 'em all. Great photography, though. Sail and Sailing are magazines I can't relate to. I'm strickly a small boat person..my 23 seems a bit big sometimes. I was looking at an older 16 for sale just yesterday...seems like such a simple boat...hmm, wonder if I can convince the Admiral? AM I OUT OF MY MIND? ANOTHER BOAT?
Bob 23 out!!
I'm getting Sail and Good Old Boat right now.
I want to get Blue Water Sailing, keep the dream alive, ya know. ;)

My wife subscribes to "Cruising World", and once in a while I pick up a "Professional Mariner" magazine. Think big.

Hey Gypsy Soul-
Don't let your wife see that dream on the cover that your'e trying to keep alive!
I've never read professional mariner but sounds interesting. Seems like there are more magazines than there is time to read them. Kinda like sailing- not enough time to sail all the places we'd like to.
Bob23 out...gotta go to work!!!
Have a subscription to "Sail." Purchased at the news stand: Small Craft Advisor, Sailing (for the photos), Wooden Boat, Good Old Boat, and Boatworks"?" I think it's published by "Sail." It's quarterly and discusses DYI improvements.
I refer to Don Casey's writings in both mags and his books. Top of the reading list lately are manuals from West System. Liked them so much, I went ahead and purchased their big book, too, "Gudgeon Brothers on Boat Construction." Won't list the entire library here.

To all:
I just finished "The Lone Voyager", the story of the remarkable seaman, Howard Blackburn for which the famous open water rowing race around Cape Ann, MA, is named. Howard was a Gloucester fisherman who's dory was separated in a blizzard from the mother ship in 1883 and then rowed himself and his dead shipmate to Newfoundland, some 5 days away.
Although he ended up loosing all his fingers and a few toes to frostbite, he still completed 2 solo transatlantic voyages.
I'll say no more except that this is a fantastic, true story.
