As I start compiling supplies for the OBX130 next week, I'm thinking about other places on my sailing bucket list. Lake Champlain, the Bahamas, sail past the Statue of Liberty, Gulf of California, and the Apostle Islands. The Apostles are the easiest to reach, so this winter I will be replacing the trailer bunks, rollers, and making sure it is capable of such a trip. The plan is to attend CLR, then travel north to visit the girls, leave Joanie with them, and head to Bayfield.
I'm posting this now so if anyone is interested in meeting up there they will have plenty of time to prepare.
I would consider such an event. In my past, I have sailed my trusty C-16 across Lakes Michigan, Huron, Erie and around Ontario.Have done North Channel with a group. Never got it to Superior. Maybe now. Keep in touch.
That sounds like an adventure I would love to do. After my trip to Door County I've been wanting to do something similar except actually travel by boat instead of day trips out from the slip. With my up-coming semi-retirement this December I'm hoping things like this can be a reality instead of a daydream. Keep us posted on your plans, maybe this time I can be a participant instead of an audience member.
Count me in for next year. CLR and then the Apostle Islands. I just finished my mast step rot issue repair. I considered trying to do the OBX sail but decided I'd be pushing it.
A week or so ago I spent an hour writing my repair process for my Suncat mast step rot issue on here. When I went to post it all went away. Very frustrating. I don't know if it timed out or what.
Have fun at the OBX!
😲 I've had that happen too many times. Usually when I'm posting from my phone. 😤
This morning I started moving the pile of provisions into the boat for the OBX. I need to lower the mast and fix the anchor light, and then the depth meter transducer. Hadn't run the o/b since last week so I started it only to have it run a couple minutes before stopping and refusing to restart. With the heat index at 107* and predicted for all next week, I'm rethinking attending this year.
. Well one nice thing about getting older we get wiser. Not smarter but wiser.
