Since I have had my Horizon, the centerboard pull up line has really been difficult to pull up the board. With no prior Horizon experience I just figured it was the way it was. I knew that the diesel option made Com Pac curbe the tube that the line runs through increasing the drag? While at CLR last week, I realized the jam cleat was a bit loose at the aft end. So at the dock I dropped the centerboard and removed the jam cleat. With it removed, the centerboard moved up and down really easy. What the ......? Closer examination the three holes (jam cleat, spacer, and hole in the cockpit floor) do not line up. When the three are together, the line barely can fit through the combined three holes. Most of the drag I have felt is the line passing through the three "NOT" lined up holes. My plan is to replace the wood spacer with a larger hole and increase the size of the jam cleat hole or replace the cleat.
Question: Has anyone else found this to be the case? and, if yes how did you repair? Anyone replace the jam cleat with a cam cleat? Thanks, Sail On AL
I removed the existing clam cleat, reinstalled the phenolic spacer after increasing the size of the hole. I put a small Harkin cam cleat on the floor boards at the cross brace position. I screwed it through both the teak floor into the cross brace. Looks good and it functions perfectly.
