Title: Trailer info?
Post by: Cats Paw on March 17, 2026, 07:38:15 AM
My Compac 16 SV RU-ACh is a 1980 model year.  She sits on what I believe is the original Magic Tilt trailer.  I would like to replace the axle and leaf springs and hardware.
Does anyone have suggestions on where to purchase replacement parts or part numbers. The axle is a three sided beam axle.

Thanks,  Don

I will check into that suggestion, thanks

40 year old springs and axle are more than likely tired.  Have to transport the SV safely overland. Up and down ramps and in and out of the water.

The axle on my '85 Hutch trailer gave way while sitting in the drive back in 2020. I replaced it with a 5200lb 4" drop axle. New springs, hubs, 15" wheels and tires. The larger tires make a huge difference.

How is launching for you with the larger wheels and drop axle? I can barely launch my 16 without any extensions or creative solutions like strap launching. The 19 is pretty much outta the question (luckily my local lake launch is fairly steep). I can tell my springs and axle are close to retirement, so I was considering doing exactly what you did.

It sits at the original height. The larger tires absorb a lot more of the road bumps so it tows smoother. I use a 3' extender on my hitch. Some ramps the trucks back tires do get submerged.
