I marked the calendar. I was so pissed at the trailer fender incident in Florida, I told Joan I'm not trailering the boat again. If she makes me stick to it, we'll come sans boat. Either way I'll have a kayak with me.

Carl, rather than give up on trailering, buy some good fenders and mounts from E Trailer.  I went through the crap fenders destroying a tire, falling off and getting them welded on.  Wasted a ton of time and $$$.  Finally, I bought plastic/fiberglass fenders with mounts.  Strong enough to stand on.  Installed them and voila, never had a problem during the 8 more years towing to Florida (1300 miles one way), CLR. etc.  Check out E Trailer.  Good people to deal with.  Sail On AL

ive got to say that your fender problem wouldnt bother me in the least. fix the damned things and ane bring the boat. it wont be the same without "miss adventure" in our fleet. plus, the race. i know how competitive you are

Those fenders cost over $300. I replaced all the hardware with galvanized. Installed 2 lock washers on each, and used my pneumatic impact driver. Then I crushed the exposed heads. Doubt they'll come off again, but it seems every time I trailer her, something goes wrong. If I do bring the boat and something happens, I'll probably abandon it and cut my losses.

knowing how handy you are im sure you will make it here without a problem. that trailer looks kick ass to me and it sounds like the fender issue is sorted and you have a good spare. it just wouldnt be the same without your 19. gotta love that boat. with your new sails you will be tough to beat.

Steve.  I know CLR is still months away, but can you elaborate on where we launch and where vehicles/trailers will be stored.  Thanks.  Sail On,  AL

You continue East and turn left onto the county road and go straight into the park, 1/4 mile bear to the right and follow it to the end. The harbormaster's name is Joe. Either he or I will direct you where to launch and park you trailer. For informationd call me at 317} 440 3804. The sailing assoc. number is 1 314} 3259283.

We will be there. Whether we bring the boat along will be determined.

the 19 went in the water yesterday and i had a nice 2 hour sail before the sun went down. putting the trailer away in the backyard after dark i didn't have time to look it over or rinse the saltwater off it. today i did, and what i found isn't good. all the rollers and their brackets need replacing. so do the treated bunks. they are bad enough i wouldn't trailer the boat outside our subdivision. thinking about CLR. i was hoping to bring the boat, but now i doubt that will happen. we will be there with my bicycle and a kayak, but i don't have the time, energy, or cash to fix the trailer right now.

The sail with your 19 sounded fantastic, Carl! So sorry to hear about the trailer situation -- hope you can get it fixed up sooner rather than later. Glad to hear you'll still be attending CLR -- we are hoping to go with our new 2024 Legacy -- and maybe we will also bring our kayaks since you're bringing yours. Bikes would be fun as well!

Hey, Carl, since I don't have my June schedule yet I have no idea whether I'll be able to attend any days this year or not.  You're welcome to use my crappy little Eclipse if you want something to float around in.  I'm about an hour and twenty from Carlyle and kinda opposite the direction you're coming from, but it's yours if you want.  Depending on how my schedule turns out I might be able to help with transport.

That is a very generous offer and I'll take it into consideration. We will be in northern IL the week prior for our grandson's high school graduation. As of now, are not sure if we will be attending the entire week. We have a lot going on this year with out of town visitors, landscaping, and home improvements scheduled in June.

landscaping and  home improvements getting in the way of sailing, you have got to be sailing. to fast doc, what a guy

That's the drawback of building a new house. We have been in it for 3 years and I've spent most my time on the water. Time to start landscaping. Not easy working in the yard when your sailboat is yards away beckoning you.
