I just finished what I hope will act as a tender for my Sun Cat, that does not require towing. It is a 6' Wooden Widget Origami. https://woodenwidget.com/origami.htm Building from a written narrative and photos, all in metric, was "interesting". Lots of length conversions and searching for comparable USA versions of the specified materials. The plan is that folded, this will fit on a bunk. When needed it will be assembled in the cockpit (about 2 minutes), and dropped over the side. A friend built one and uses it in a Sagecat 15 so this should work. I will row it but also might try an old 18# thrust trolling motor I found in the storage shed. Next step is to test it at my nearby lake.
Photos will follow when I am off the iPad.
Photos of the dinghy. Wood is finished with water based varnish as an experiment. Never used it before but it sure dries quick and seems to hold up pretty well on a test pice I have had in the back yard for about 6 months. Down side is it take a lot of coats to get a similar build to oil based varnish.
I was concerned about the wrinkles in the ends of the fabric, but after looking at other build photos it appears this is a common trait. They may stretch out when the boat is in the water and loaded.
Very cool! The sailing version takes me back to sailing prams as a kid.
