i haven't been on this site for quite some time and am happy to be back. We just purchased an '89 CP27 (to go along with her little sister, '83 Compac 19) and am planning to have the standing rigging replaced, new roller furling,sails, etc - all the "really cheap" stuff after buying an older boat...
To do this i will be pulling the mast, checking/replacing mast wires as well. Realizing this is a deck stepped mast, i was curious if anyone could provide some details/explanation with respect to wiring connections to the bulkhead and how these disconnect when pulling the mast. I assume the connections are in the mast at the step and there is no need to do anything with the bulkhead inside. with respect to the bulkhead, it looks like wires proceed from the deck down through the compression post then out at the base but Im not 100%; i also see no easy way to access these wires if need.
any information/experience appreciated.
On a somewhat separate note, i also just noticed i there is rot in the "table" that supports/stabilizes the rudder tube/post which is allowing movement in the rudder post. Any experience on this appreciated as well as it will need fixing asap.
Guess this is the price to pay for standing headroom:).

I'm a new member and sailing CP-27 in Japan. I'm planning to replacement of the standing rigging in early January.
Could you also let me know about wiring connections? I could find neither junction box nor connections around roof or bulkhead.

There must be a good story as to how your boat made it to Japan!
Mast wiring is inside the compression post and is accessed by removing the trim at the bottom of the bulkhead on the forward side. There may be a junction there. If not, you'll have to see if there are connections at the bottom end inside the mast when it's unstepped.
In my case there was no junction and were no connections. There was enough slack inside that when the mast was raised slightly I was able to cut the wires. I made up connectors for both ends of the wiring while the mast was down. I also cut an access near the base of the mast and found a cover to make future stepping and unstepping easier.

Contrary to your expectation, no interesting stories. My boat was imported to Japan as brand new by first owner in 1997, and I'm the third owner from this September.
I was surprised that no connections in your case. I heard that CP-27 was designed as trailerable boat by car. Why there were no connections on wiring to the mast?
Anyway, I will rise the mast carefully and check around the base of the mast.
