Wow, it's been almost a month since a new post has appeared under this thread -- hoping everyone's OK and has just been busy getting in a lot of great sailing this season! Would sure love to hear about everyone's summer sailing adventures -- I realize a lot of folks frequent the groups on FB to share, however, being that I am not on FB, it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) I am not 'in the know' if you post there. Share your stories -- what have y'all been up to?
Several weeks ago I hauled the 19 for maintenance. Her bottom was cleaned along with the rudder. New Anchor 16/3 wire was pulled through the mast for the steaming and anchor lights. Rigged a line to raise the rudder. Installed a halyard on the portside spreader for the CYPOA burgee. Fixed the o/b mount. Polished the stainless. Today I'll powerwash and splash her.
I wasn't in a hurry as this summer has been weird. As I look out at the water, the only ripples are from the local kayak club passing by. The winds have been nonexistent. Last evening was predicted to have 8-10 mph north winds. The water was like glass. I'm speaking of the creeks. With about 4 miles of navigable water and many coves, I find them much more interesting to sail than the river. One of the reasons I like my Compac is it's gunk-holing abilities.
I got her back in the water this afternoon and went for an hour and a half sail. I left the main up in hopes of a sunset sail, but as the picture shows, again no wind on the creek.
Still a good looking boat! Sorry about the no wind, but at least you are getting into the maintenance issues that we all face.
I only have a couple of weeks left in my northern sailing season, so I plan on sailing a couple of days each week. We are camping for 10 days with Carol's brother and sister, + spouses, in mid Sept so the season left is short>
Still planning on taking Petit Chat to FL for winter, unless we decide to sell our place. Up for discussion at this point. Sail on, Al
BTW, the boat has been terrific. I could not have made a better purchase, and thanks to you again!
I have been busy with charters on Lake Murray all summer. I was able to finally start refinishing the exterior teak on our Suncat (still have yet to name her). Now that the charter season has slowed down a bit, we are headed to Dreher Island State Park for two weeks with camper and boat in tow. I'll let you know how the sailing goes.

Today is Pirate Jam. A live 3 band concert one can only enjoy from the water. Last year we listened from our 19. This year we have friends with us so we're taking the Orion. Anything that floats can be found. Pontoon boats disguised as floating tiki huts, large motor vessels, sailboats that can clear the 45' bridge, dinghies, kayaks, paddle boards, and some people just swim up and stand in the shallows. It's a free event that started during covid . Some individuals dress like pirates and move about the anchored vessels demanding booty or a boarding will take place. Last year I handed over pbr and they vowed never to ask again.

although we didn't take the Compac to Pirate Jam, they were well represented with 2-27s, a 19, and a picnic cat. there was a neat little steam powered boat with a functioning black powder cannon on it's bow. that little canon was quite loud. our friends wore pirate costumes as did a lot of the spectators.
