Title: It's Too Hot to Work on the Boat!
Post by: crazycarl on July 27, 2025, 12:38:18 PM
With a 115° heat index, I decided it's too hot to work on the the boat. So instead, I'm in the garage building a 5'X10' table for a 4 lane slot car track. I'm picking up the 3 eldest grandsons from the airport on Friday and need to have it complete and installed in the FROG. (finished room over garage) While they're here, I'll take them on an overnight sail on the Orion, kayak the creeks, race around in the rib, buy fresh shrimp straight off the boat and have a boil, visit Lookout Lighthouse and swim in the ocean. Only 1 of them is interested in fishing so maybe just the 2 of us will set out in search of some spotted sea trout.

Carl, it sounds like you have a fantastic itinerary planned for your grandsons! How lucky and fortunate they are to have such a cool grandfather, like you! So awesome you'll get them out on the Orion (and kayaks)! Speaking of Orions: I just got back from Lake Superior where one on my dock neighbors also has an Orion. It's the one with the black hull that I showed you before. He told me he took two weeks off to sail solo from our marina in Washburn over to the northern shores of Lake Superior — up to Silver Bay and then Grand Marais. Sounds like his trip was amazing!

Re: the heat — we are experiencing the same thing — heat index of 106 today (93 forecast for the high) with 110 heat index, tomorrow, and forecast for 96. I wanted to see my 23, today, but I'm afraid the heat will keep me from doing so. Probably no kayaking for me, tomorrow, either, as was initially the plan. Unless I wait until really late in the day...perhaps.

Have a fun time with your grandsons and share your adventures if the mood should strike you!
