Title: First few sails with my Com-Pac 25
Post by: passagesfromtheheart on June 17, 2025, 04:53:19 PM
I just got back from a week of 'discovery sailing' (with brand-new North Sails, btw) my new-to-me/us 2002 Com-Pac 25, SV Dream, up on Lake Superior. I should also note that the First Mate and I were accompanied by Jerome Rand of Sailing Into Oblivion (https://www.sailingintooblivion.com (https://www.sailingintooblivion.com)) -- we hired him to help acclimate us to all of the new systems onboard the 25 -- systems which our 23 doesn't have, for example. Gotta say, there's surely a lot to be said for managing the systems on the 25 -- e.g., as with my flying lessons, having a pre-departure (leaving the dock) checklist comes in quite handy, as does having a checklist for leaving the boat at the dock, especially as only we see our 25 about once a month during the sailing season. There is abundantly more than a laundry list of things we learned during the time we spent with Jerome aboard Dream, but I'll write about all of that over on my sailing blog (link below) in case there are any brave souls which care to take a look-see.

Moreover, what I will say is that ever since I left the boat, a little over four days ago, I can't help shake this longing I have -- I'm still chasing that feeling of sailing her -- that sweet spot where the wind fills the sails and being at the helm is a feeling which cannot adequately be put into words because, well...I think you all know what I mean.

For a sneak-peek, here's a short 2.5 minute vid compiling some of the sailing we did on Lake Superior aboard Dream -- hope you enjoy.
