It's been 30 years since I sailed a 16. Planning to dunk Tilling Time for the first time tomorrow (4/18); forecast winds 8-15 mph. Is the high end a bit much for lazy comfort?
Not with a reefed main and smallish jib. Or just put the main up alone if you really want to take it easy. And you should have no problem getting over 15 mpg with any outboard on that boat:)

Thankee, Sir. My thought too, but I'd just read the extended response to a post about Compac 27 vs Island Packet 27 in Sailor's Lounge, mentioning getting overpowered in 15 knots. Dunno about that but it raised the question for me.

that wind speed is great! Boat should move well. Steer down on the puffs and ease the main sheet a bit. That's going to be fun.

You'll be fine.

Didn't make it as the result of a prior attack of idiocy. I've installed a mast-top (not mashead) light, drilling a hole at the base of the mast for the 14-3 to exit. I ran the !#@$%@!#$ cable out one of the pivot bolt holes and put a fat watertight screw connection on it. Didn't find out until I was pulling the mast back to step it. Pulled the boat home and took less than 10 minutes correcting the mistake, miraculously not dropping/losing the match-head-sized set screw for the connection. Entered the house to find the Executive Department cooking steak. Full sit-down meal. <sigh> Later in the day, after getting half the back yard mowed, the newish Honda lawnmower broke down (again), joining the 7.5kW generator on the inoperable list. Then I found the winch on the trailer which was going to pull the genset up the trailer ramp is kaput. I used a WWII-era hemp and wood block and tackle with a contractor's shovel under the rubber pads on the front to get the genset onto the trailer. THEN I found out the shop is closed until Monday. Overall, it was not a stellar day.,
We're about to try again. I eagerly anticipate what Murphy has planned for me this time.
Laughing at my title. Yeah, I got a lot of MPG out of Tilling Time . . . .
As an update: the born-again virgin maiden voyage was made Friday. The sailing was okay; rigging, launching, retrieving, and de-rigging was a demonstration of how much I'd forgotten and that I am truly 80 years old.
