Title: Reefing
Post by: crazycarl on April 05, 2025, 07:27:35 AM
How do you connect the tack when reefing? On my other boats there is a "hook" at the goose neck. The Compac doesn't have that. Can anyone post a pic how their reefing system is setup?

I think I saw in the manual that the mk3s do have a hook on the gooseneck, so you might be able to find one. I will have to check when I get home. I use 2 line reefing and cleat off to the downhaul. Neither of my boats have the gooseneck hook unfortunately.

EDIT: the book shows a diagram including the gooseneck hook, so at least one of the compac mk3 line has it, whether thats all of them or only 19/23 I have no idea.

I have a somewhat related question. I was talking with a couple sailors who have CP16s, and they both have rolling furler 150% genoas like I do on my 19. Now, they said they usually will reef the main or even douse it before reefing/furling the foresail. Is that something yall have experienced or done? I have a smaller sailing dinghy that I sail sometimes main only, but I only have a 70ish jib on it. (Never bothered measuring it)

I am interested in hearing the more experienced owners' experience with this practice.
