Title: 2025 Lake Superior | Apostle Islands Meet-Up
Post by: passagesfromtheheart on January 25, 2025, 06:05:51 PM
Hi, y'all!

OK, I started a new Lake Superior/Apostle Islands thread because I'm thinking the other one — dated from 2023 — is pretty much a dead thread, I'm surmising due to the fact that "2023" is the year noted in the thread subject field.

Having said the above, is anyone still game for a meet up, this summer in 2025, out of the Bayfield area, to explore the Apostle Islands? If you want some more goodies/information, please refer back to that 2023 thread (under the same forum/topic area). You'll see where I've noted marinas, ramps, different island attractions, etc., etc.

I've gotta start planning my summer for time off from work, so just looking to check in with y'all to see if anybody is really serious about trying to put something together.

Fair winds!

Any interest out there? Checking in again, just in case!

 Interested, but only if it is after CLR. Also hoping to sail the North Channel again this year. Optimally, for me, I would drive up for CLR, then head north to the Apostles, and then on to the North Channel. Otherwise it's too much driving in one summer. I also have the 2 oldest grandsons coming down for a week of sailing August 3rd, and returning with their father when he comes down for a fishing trip August 8th-10th.

Sounds good, Carl! Thanks so much for letting me know! There was previously some interest from a handful of other folks, too, but I haven't heard/seen anyone else chime in to date.

As for us: We are still planning our summer schedule as of this writing, but for now, our first trip to Lake Superior will be in early June for our "shakedown cruise" with Jerome Rand of Sailing Into Oblivion. We are spending three days with him coaching us to go over all of our Com-Pac 25's new-to-us systems and do an overnight or two out on the lake.

I'm not sure when CLR is, but I'll check out the thread on that to see what's shaking. Maybe we could trailer our Com-Pac 23 or Com-Pac Legacy to join in the fun with that!

We are planning to go up to Lake Superior 1-2x per month this spring, summer, and fall, so hopefully, a Apostle Island/Lake Superior meet-up will work out -- fingers crossed!

Here is a phenomenal documentary about sailing the Apostle Islands with a trailerable sailboat -- in this case, it's a Siren 17 - the folks who put this doc together did an absolutely stellar job -- wait until you see the adventures they have! Amazing stuff!!!

I would be interested as well.  After the CLR.

Thank-you!

Thanks for letting me know, Christopher!

So it looks like CLR is June 16th - June 20th, does that sound right?

Carl, I know you'd like to see an Apostle Islands meet-up after CLR, too, but closer to when CLR wraps up, from what I gathered?

The First Mate and I won't be able to get back up to Lake Superior until later in mid-July after our early June trip up there, so I surmise that this would probably be too late for you, Carl?

We have also tentatively scheduled time off for travel back up to Lake Superior in:
* early August
* mid-September
* the first week of October

Getting away, however, is dependent upon whether we can find care for the animals on our farm, however, which can be tricky.

Would any of these date ranges be doable for others? Please let me know what your thoughts are -- thanks!
