Title: What an Idiot...
Post by: crazycarl on January 17, 2025, 05:32:52 PM
I am. I imagine Steve, Bob, Chris, and Roger are nodding in agreement as they read this. Actually Steve has a big smile while saying out loud "Duh"!
I've been working on all three boats readying them for the up coming season. Not much to fix, but cleaning them out and making things tidy. The shower sump in the Seidelmann needed a new pump so I replaced it with an automatic pump, all new wiring, and hose. I also wanted to clean out the bilge. After using the bilge pump to remove most of the water, I vacuumed the rest out, emptied the vacuum, cleaned it and the hose out before placing them on the dock to drain and dry. The vacuum dried quickly in the sun and I returned it inside the boat. The hose I hung on a dock piling to drain.  Looking at it I thought, "that's going to end up in the water", but figured I'd take it down when I finished.  After sunset I called it quits and headed inside the house. I awoke at 2:30 remembering the hose, but quickly fell back asleep. This morning I went to the dock and...no hose. I used a boat hook trying to locate it under and around the dock and boat, but couldn't. Now this may not seem like that big a deal, but of all our vacuums, this is by far my favorite. It has a very long cord, 11' hose along with another 10' stretch hose, and best of all, a remote on/off switch on the handle. I can leave the vacuum in the cockpit and run the hose throughout the boats without all the noise and turn it on and off without going to the vacuum unit. It's been in the mid 20s at night so the water is cold, but I may have to "take the plunge" and look for it.

Yes, they cost $25, but they don't list the remote handle on their site.  I sent an email asking if they'd sell me one. The remote would likely be toast from the saltwater.

I think it is safe to say we have all been there one time or another, though perhaps reluctant to admit it... Good luck with the replacement!

If you can't replace the remote you can always use one of these for the remote function

Good idea. I have some somewhere.  I used them in my shop to turn the dust collection, blue tooth speakers, and exhaust on and off.
