Title: A new home for "Petite Chat"
Post by: alsantini on December 06, 2024, 12:45:57 PM
Well after 5 days on the road I am home with the Horizon I purchased from Al Parker.  Some comments:  Al Parker is the kind of sailor you want to buy a boat from.  It was a pleasure meeting him.  I'll bet he has a ton of stories from his 70 years sailing!  Yes, 70!  The trailer I had made by Triad is second to none.  Everything adjusted to fit the Horizon like a glove.  It tracked perfectly and was balanced from the factory.  Literally opened up the keel guides and adjusted the bunks to fit the hull.   The guys at Al's marina did all the work as a favor to Al!  If you are in need of a trailer - Triad is the best around.  Carl came over to help with the trailer and get me on the way in a timely fashion.  Crazy Carl is really not crazy... he is a hell of a guy and sailor who helped me and I appreciated him.
It was a cold trip home with morning temps in the teens.  But, all in all a great trip.  Now I just have to get Petite Chat (French for little cat) to Florida so I can splash her into the Gulf of Mexico.  I can hardly wait!  Sail On,  Al

Hi Al,
Thanks for the kind comments on us folk in NC.  I hope you enjoy Petit Chat as much as I have.
I got her figuring she would be my last boat, and I would enjoy her as l long as I could.  I'm sorry to say, that's how it's worked out.  It was a sad day to see her go.
My sig doesn't seen to have been att. to my recent posts, so I'll add it just in case.
enjoy,
Al P

Al, I'm looking forward to seeing your new boat at the CLR 2025. Glad you made it back home.  Safe travels to Florida.
  Oh yea.  Carl's not crazy?

Crazy? I'm not crazy. If I was crazy would they have let me escape from the Chicago Behaviol Treatment Center? I think not.

Hi Al, can you post a photo of the trailer? And how much they go for if you don't mind sharing? I have a 2004 and while in good shape it's not great for long distances.

Sorry I did not see the question.  First off, the Triad is single axle not the usual twin that Com Pac used on the Horizon.  With the twin axle I would float off the trailer in two inches less water, so after discussing with Mike the owner, I settled in on the single axle.  Single axle was $5400, twin axle was $2400 more.  Trailer has surge disc brakes, a tongue extension, that I have yet to use, LED lights, and galvanized fenders.  It tows perfectly and really stops in panic mode.
