Title: New London CT Sailfest
Post by: alexkniffin on May 20, 2007, 10:13:26 AM
Hey guys & gals,
I'll be sailing my Com-Pac 16 around the New London, CT harbor on July 14th (Sailfest) to look at the tall ships (and, of course, get a prime spot to watch the fireworks!).  It seems like an excellent time & place to meet another Com-Pac owner (which I still have not had the pleasure of).  Is anyone else gong to be there?

Thanks,
~Alex

That's a swell idea. But skip here is way too far away to sail and enjoy the party.
I do the same but in the Great Lakes...hear here July! skip.

I also own a Com-Pac 16 but since I live inland in CT, I sail on the lakes.  Do you take your boat out on the Sound?  I've sailed larger boats out to Block Island but am hesitant to take my 16 out there.  Where do you dock?  I've had a difficult time finding reasonably priced dock space on any lake near Wolcott and cannot even find a lake with a ramp where storage on land is available.  I have to set it all up and take down each time I go sailing.  Any suggestions?

Your idea on the 14th sounds great!  If I can arrange the time, it would be fun to see the tall ships and fireworks from the boat.

I leave my boat on the trailer and put into the Sound for the day (its a lot cheaper).  The 16s are REALLY well behaved boats for their size.  I've taken the vessel to Lake Naiomi in the Poconos (3-5 ft deep lake!!!) and she's been out on the Sound countless times.  Talk about a versatile ship for a beginner!
