Title: Foiled Rudder
Post by: crazycarl on March 03, 2024, 01:44:14 PM
The gentleman who measured my 19 for new sails, owns a CP16.  I had mentioned I need to build a foiled rudder and he said he has seen slip on foils for Compac boats. I know all about IDA rudders, has anyone seen or heard of a company producing slip on foils for our rudders?

I, like others, have foiled my rudder, in my case by shaping planks of King Starboard that sandwich the stock plate rudder (see reply #11).

Later, Eddie C. posted about an aluminum sleeve foil that looked interesting that he'd used on a SC (see reply #7). Still available from Duckworths it seems.

I don't know how I missed the thread on this in 2020, but I did. Too bad as I've been procrastinating for years on this project. So When I did see this last month, I got super excited to use the sleeve. Unfortunately, I heard from duckworks this morning that the factory producing the FF27, disappeared during the pandemic and the folks at windknife have been unable to find another. I guess the smaller model, is done in a diff. facility so is still available through duckworks. I guess it's back to the drawing board for me.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully a similar product is out there.
