Title: Replacing the tabernacle on a SunCat
Post by: Gary on July 12, 2022, 12:19:42 PM
I have a 2007 Sun Cat with the tabernacle which needs to be replaced.  Has anyone had any experience in doing this?  In particular I am wondering how easy it is to remove the thru-deck fitting and re-sealing this when the new tabernacle is installed.  I am not sure how this comes apart.  What is the recommended sealer when I am ready to reinstall the deck fitting?
Also, is there only the one bolt which holds the tabernacle to the aluminum base attached to the fiberglass floor by the battery compartment?  Once this bolt is removed, is it an easy lift out?
Thank You!

If we agree the tabernacle is the hinge itself, why do you need to remove the mast stub? The hinge is bolted on. If the track on the mast stub is spread, it may not need replacing. Photos would help.

It's not a big deal to replace the mast stub, but it's rarely necessary.

I wish I had a photo, but the mast stub is what needs replacing.  It has a crease in it which puts it at about a 80 degree tilt rather than 90 degrees to the deck (long story).  What I am wondering is the thru-deck fitting for the stub, what kind of job is it taking this apart and what sealer should I use when I put it back together with the new stub?

Haven't done it, but it looks straightforward. The mast ring, part IN00M0005, is mounted to the deck. No fasteners to the mast stub. Any polyurethane sealant would do, I'd use Sikaflex 291.

The mast step, part D(H) 2140, is mounted to blocking on the keel. One through bolt is common.

Bruce, thanks for all of the great information.  I installed the stub mast today and wasn't near as hard as I thought it would be.  The biggest issue was trying to get enough sealant down around the mast in the deck hole.  Mission accomplished!

Excellent! I'm glad there were no bad surprises.
