Hi,
I just downsized to a highly trailer-able Sunday cat...one outing that is near the top of my list this year is to sail in the stretch of the Potomac behind the Lincoln Memorial.
Previously, when I had a Horizon cat I sailed out of Dogue creek (Ft Belvoir Marina) I never ducked my mast enough to make it beyond the 14th st bridge.
I have been thinking of using the Columbia Island Marina...this is the little marina next to the Pentagon. The have a boar ramp and usually have lots of empty slips with plenty of parking.
Of course a challenge for sailboats using this marina is the "humpback" bridge with it's 18 foot clearance. I would not raise my mast until out of the marina harbor.
So, if there are any interest....say meeting up around Memorial day weekend. It think it would be pretty cool to see a couple of gaff-ers looping around that beautiful stretch of water.
All the best,
Steve
