Hello all you gnarly wharf rats!! Thought by quarantining yourselves you could hide from me didn't ya! Well it didn't work- here I am!!
It's the beginning of February in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty one which means it's time to think about the Bash! Last years was quite subdued with just moi and Kev in attendance but we had a floatable something which could have been construed as a boat so it counts for the record books! A fun inland Bash at the famous Tie One On Tiki bar, most likely frequented by non other than Ernest Hemmingway himself!
So weigh in here me hearties because a fun time will be had by all, if you don't really value your reputation, that is!!
Cheers!!
For the cause, 'cause I can- Bob Twenty-three!

So 15th Anniversary?
Yup! 15th and counting!
Thinking and hoping all is in the clear for this year! We will be in - just purchased a Takacat tender for some fun off Tices and other areas of exploration for 2021! Now just the need some 50-60 degree temps so we can start dusting off Freedom?s winter frost.
Bob23 - she?s on the hard at Long Key, so hopefully we?ll see you around soon!
Gerard
I do hope that 15th Bash will come to pass. Someone has to get things back to normal and who better than the East Coast Compac-o-nauts!!
Gerard:
I didn't realize your boat was at Long Key. Mine too, mast down and under shrink-wrap on the main road leading to the office. I guess you're on the other side. I'll be down there more often in the next few weeks as I'm planning a mid to late April launch.
Cheers!
Bob23
IPA EXPRESS will be there for the overnight on Saturday! Only weekends currently booked are 6/12-6/19 for family vacation in OC.
Well we better have a bash this year. I'm running out of anchor polish just trying to keep it ready. Time to dunk that anchor in the "bay". I'l be waiting with bated breath for future news.

Although I get it?s not the forum for this, I figured its the best group of locals that might have the right answer! The sail repair shop in Lacey that we used years ago no longer does repairs, said he got too old for it, so now we are looking around for someone else in the area. Small piece of the Sunbrella cover on the jib is a bit loose and we don?t want it getting any worse, along with a small tear in the main sail cover - anyone have a local repairman they like to use?
I've used Linthicum Sails in Somerdale to clean a sail and stitch an unraveled jib cover. Bit of a hike for you though. That mail cover might just need to be replace given it's original. Bayview Canvas in little egg made the bimini and can probably make a new sail cover and match it to bimini. Let's get some dates going for BBB! Night away from the kids on the boat is sounding more and more exciting.
Thanks Ryan - will give them a look! She goes in Friday morning and can?t wait.
Ellen and myself are in, just let us know when. We are a bit further away now at Beaton and Sons Boat Yard, an additional 2 dark and Stormy?s north of Kettle Creek.
Well, When is it? in August?
Dave Thompson at Cedar Creek Marina, Forked River, formally with Eggers Sailmakers. While at Eggers he made my new set of sails and has done a few repairs for me. Also made my new running rigging as well as stainless steel lifelines for cable rail systems that we use on our construction projects.
Bob23
I'm down on the Chesapeake this season. I am unlikely to make it back to Jersey by Aug but will likely be back next year.
Sounds like a great adventure for the girls. Hope to one day spend a summer cruising it when the boys are old enough to enjoy it.
It looks like a full moon on sat July 24th.
Or August around the 20th.
Terrapin is launched, new motor broken in, and ready for 2021 adventure.
either weekend works for me.
Gents:
August 20th doesn't work for me as I'll be at the Woodenboat show in Mystic, CT that weekend. The July 24th might work but how about the previous weekend- July 17th? And I guess we should put together a roster too? Southwinds Marina, where Allen and Marty launched is no longer allowing the use of the ramp for non members but there's another marina down the road "Townends Marina" where I've launched a small rowing boat and they are more friendly. I'm not sure about slip rentals and availability at Southwinds this year as they might apply their "members only" to boat slips too. I'll look into it.
Cheers my friends!!
Bob23
AAARGH, That weekend is Pirates weekend at SML. An event that's not to be missed by the founding fam, er, CREW.
TG
Hey mates!! Might be a change of plans on my end... might not go to Mystic on the 20th of August.
Bob23
Bob,
Thank for doing the scouting. sad that Southwinds may not be hosting us. Ok for any alternative.
Up north of the Mantoloking bridge is Trader Cove Municiple. The have transient slips for @$55 a night, and good ramp. But need to drive for restaurants...
It would provide access to Metedonk River and northern Barnegat bay. I have not sailed the Metedeconk river yet. It would be a lot tighter than way done where you southernn boys are.
So Southwinds isn't doing slips either BUT Silver Cloud Marina which is up the road does have transient slips. $3/ft. or $1.50 if you have BoatUS. Probably cheaper to join the basic membership for $25. Townsends Marina has a ramp which is on the same road.
I'll check with my marina "Long Key Marina" in Waretown. I know they have vacant slips and there's a free ramp just across the lagoon. It's a great blue collar place, no problem with a dock party and of course there's the famous Golden Rock Cafe' conveniently located right next to my boat slip- #53.
More soon,
Bob23
Famous or Infamous? I wasn't planning to overnight on Friday but this seems like a true pirates adventure.
Ryan:
"Infamous" but you probably already knew that! I should have more info tomorrow but in the meantime, how's-about we put together a roster!!
Sorry to say but I'm healing up from some hip and back injuries so I haven't even had the Madame out this year yet. In any event Suzie and I would enjoy coming down for the party night/dinner/festival. Keep us posted.
-Allen
So is there a working date for this shindig?
Good question Kev. Weigh in gents. Or ladies too!
A few updates: My marina, Long Key no longer has any slips available. And the ramp at Townsends is sketchy at best. Lots of broken concrete and crowded, could be a real problem at low tide. A while back I launched one of my small rowing craft there and it was ok because I don't need the tires in the water.
As someone had mentioned, we should at least do dinner... Septemberish? ....At the Waterfront(Latitudes)
I was away for a long weekend, rowing in Cape Ann, MA and didn't check in here but I did have a thought or two.
Dinner on Friday somewhere is a must! Let's all do it and raise our glasses to toast the event.
Seems like boat slips have become an issue and the number of boaters seem to be limited to myself, Brian and Ryan. How about we fend for ourselves for the slips but still plan a Saturday sail meet up at Tice's or some where we can all agree on. The weekend of August 20th works for me ok but I'm not locked into that.
Your thoughts ladies and gents!
Bob23
With highest hopes that the show will go on, you may want to consider that mid-September is going to coincide with a steep upslope in the fourth wave. Plan accordingly, and tentatively.
4th wave of what?
COVID
We should get together before Labor Day just in case, you know.... Lock Down 2.0 ;)
Agreed!
My brother is coming in August 20th so that weekend is out. I'm good for dinner the following weekend 8/28 or 9/11.
Folks,
1) will plan to be off of tices shoal on Sunday August 22, before noon, weather permitting. If possible, will anchor off tices sat night. Friday I have to work at my Church picnic, but they do have beer and wine?.
2) annual dinner is in plan, hopefully September we will be free to meet. If need be, we could host a get together at our house, if our kitchen ever gets completed. Cabinets going in this week?
Attention all Bashers!!
Looks like this year will be an unconventional Bash, but let's not let that stop us! You may remember last years Bash was held at the Tie One On Tiki Bar with only 3 attendants- Myself, Kev and mutual friend Dennis. And although it was held nearly 10 miles inland, we did have a floatable pool toy which could have been construed as a boat. So the judges ruled that it was an official Bash! The judges being us!!
Sounds like this years Bash will be primarily a dinner which has always been the start of every Bash nearly since it's inception 14 years ago. I think 14.. but the years blur together. So let's plan on a dinner sometime in September, the 11th was mentioned and I'm free that day, me thinks. If some of us can sail together on that date or before or after that, all the better.
So what say ye, merry men and ladies? All in favor, say "aye"!
Bob23
So are you suggesting Friday night the 10th for dinner or Saturday night with some possible day sailing on Saturday?
Sunday the 12th and the weekend of the 18th are not good for us.
I can do either the 10th or 11th for dinner. Doubtful I'll bring the boat up for a day sail.
I am hereby officially suggesting dinner on Friday night, September 10th at... somewhere! With a day sail the following day, Saturday September 11th, possible meet up at Tice's for lunch.
Let's get a roster together, shall we? I'll call Marty, haven't seen him on here lately.
Cheers!! Let the Bashing begin!!!
Bob23
Sounds great!
Count us in!
Friday September 10 sounds like plan.
May not be off or Tices tomorrow due to Henri?
Will confirm with the boss lady admiral?
Admiral Ellen approved. We are in for Sept 10th dinner- target Tices for lunch (depends how much grog on Friday night, as we would sail done next morning) on Sep 11.
Great!! I called Marty and he's in too! I'll give Allen (aka Mr. Anchor Mirror man) a few days to read here before I pester him via phone call. Sailing the next day sounds good too.
Cheers!
bob23
Thanks for the call Bob. It distresses me that we wont't be able to make it down this year due to an unavoidable conflict. We certainly will miss seeing you all but we will definitely be thinking about you.
Have a great time and we will be looking towards the mid winter gathering.
Allen & Suzie
I understand Allen, and no worries. Actually Suzie sent me your credit card info so in a way, you will be there!!
Enjoy the rest of the summer... hope you've been sailing more than I have!!
Bob23
Hey Bob,
Quite a few years have passed since my last involvement with the group, but it is great that you are keeping the tradition rolling along. Last evening we picked up a coworker at the marina and had a beautiful evening sail on the Sheepscot river. Janet will be back in school next week. With me working at the fuel dock on weekends, our sailing opportunities will be limited the rest of the season. Give our best to Marty and the rest of the crew who show up. And, put a visit to Maine on your calendar for 2022. :) jt
It turns out we might be a surprise guests after all. The boat is now back in Forked River and that weekend just opened up. So weather permitting where we will be out there. Probably just me for dinner, but wife/kids likely for the raft up. / Larry
Attenzione!
I've taken the liberty to reserve an outside table for 12 at the Waterfront in Forked River (the restaurant formally known as Lattitudes) for Saturday 9/10 at 1800 hours local time. So covid be damned, the Bash must go on! See you there!
Bob23
See you there!
JT: Good to hear from you and I'm happy things are well with you and Janet. Although you rarely check in here, you are a lifetime Basher! Once you're in, you're in for good!
We will raise a glass in your honor on the 10th and yes, I'd love to get to Maine to see you both. My old friend Andrew just retired in Boothbay and he's been bugging me to visit too. Sounds like I need a 2 week road trip!
Cheers my friend!
Larry: Looking forward to seeing you on the 10th and sailing on the 11th! Give our best to Lexi and the girls!
Bob23
IMPORTANT BASH UPDATE!!!!!
Now that I have your attention, the Bash 2021 is fast approaching with dinner this Friday 9/10/21 1800 hours local time (6pm for you landlubbers) at the Waterfront on East Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ. I've reserved an outdoor table for this most momentous occasion. It's a scaled down Bash of sorts with the aforementioned dinner followed by some sailing (hopefully) on Saturday and possible raft up at Tice's or somewhere else where the authorities can't find us!!
So far its us, Kev and Lesa, Marty and guest, Larry, maybe Dennis, Brian and Ellen and whoever else I may be missing. My shoe phone number is 609 709 3910 in case you need me. See you there!!

Bash 2021 Dinner tonight!
Sorry to say the Bronze 'Chicks' won't be able to attend.
Awww... bring the chicks!! 8)
Bash report! Even though the famous Bronze Chicks couldn't make it, 6 of us east coast Compac-o-nauts gathered on the 10th of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty one (that's this year folks) at the Waterfront for a fun dinner and drinks. Kev and I ingested 3 rum runners each (they didn't taste strong) but they were! Good company, good fun.
Present were Kev and Lesa, our resident accountant and bail bondswoman (just in case), Larry, Ryan, myself and the Admiral Linda. We had fine seats and were able to watch the sun set over the lovely NJ horizon!! Thank you for everyone who risked their reputation and made this possible! Free CPYOA memberships for 2022!!!
Only 2 of us had boats available for Saturdays sail and me like a bozo, listened to the weather forcasting very light winds so I went rowing. Of course, the wind was fine and Larry and family enjoyed some brisk afternoon winds on the Barnegat Bay, yes the very same bay the Dutch explored many moons ago!!
Stay tuned for information on the up coming Mid Winter Gathering, 2022.
