Last sunday, my 23 year old Genoa self destructed. The entire head ripped out with only the luff rope holding it together.
Sooo... I saw one on ebay that said in "new condition". Well, I was the winning su.. bidder. I'll see soon if the sail is in "new condition".
I hate to second guess my self, but, out of curiosity, does anyone know offhand what a new/used Johnson hank-on genoa should cost?
I paid approx $180 for it - didn't want to miss any of the spring air here in VA. waiting for a brand new one.

Well I don't know about the price you paid for a head sail.
I bought a asymmetrical spinnaker for about $500 with a chute from SailEast Inc.
And two sails at a garage sale for $5.00 in bags no less and with battons!! One was cut down for a small head sail on a stormy windy day and fitted with these 'hanks' that fit over the furled head sail. But I have to go foward to put all that together.
Charley Kline at DorSail, Sturgeon Bay, re cut the 'storm sail' and 'hanked it'. That was about $110 buckaroos.

So I guess I paid an additional $70 bucks to get it fast for this weekend. See?, I still have to do some things fast.

I just had a 155% genny built by Porpoise Sails in Florida for $390 and a main for $400. I'm located in England and with the very weak dollar at the moment this was a deal I couldn't miss. It would have cost me twice that to have the sails made here.
So, your half price sail sounds a good deal if the condition is as good as advertised!

I received the sail. Problem is it's not a genoa - it's a standard jib. It is in very good shape. I'll keep it as a spare.
That leaves me without a genoa. I called johnson sails to see about a replacement. They have TWICE decided not to ( in writing) quote me. $415.00 verbal (abuse)ly. I'm getting tired of trying with them.
I guess I'll try JohnS source of Porpoise Sails.
Went oput yesterday on Smith Mountain Lake. Great Day for sailing.

Charley Kline of Doorsal in Sturgeon Bay, is an excellent source for sails as is SailEast too. These two have never disappointed me yet. Doorsal does excellent work and does canvas for Palmer Johnson Yachts. skip
