Hello, It has been some years since I have been active on the forum, a divorce ate my last sailboat (a beloved Suncat). However I was fortunate to recently purchase a Legacy and I am slowly entering the uprig stage. I am sure I will have some questions but I am looking forward to sailing a sloop again and benefiting from the maneuverability since I am sailing on a small lake in central FL.
Welcome aboard. The Legacy is a great boat. I have owned mine for over 7 years. Just moved to Florida after living in Colorado for 40 years. After sailing on small lakes for many years , I now sail on the Gulf of Mexico as I live in Venice.
I have sailed when the wind was blowing 15 to 20 k with 2-3 foot seas and the Legacy does great. I have done quite a few mods over the years. The Ruddercraft foiled rudder assembly was the best addition. Enjoy your new boat

Where in Illinois do you sail? I sail, during the summer in Pistakee Lake, part of the Chain of Lakes in Northern Illinois. Winters, I trailer my Eclipse down to Nokomis FL and sail the Gulf out of Venice, like your previous post does. I would love to sail on a Legacy as I am contemplating a new Legacy Sport. Still off in the future, but I am thinking. Al
Hi there, sorry for the late reply but I am not on the forum very much. I just sailed my Legacy (with cabin) for the first time in Central FL about an hour north of Tampa on a lake a bit yesterday and it was a gusty day with clouds rolling by overhead and she did great, 10-15 knots. I had a Suncat previously and was impressed with that boat as well. I found the Legacy to be quite stable, of course more sporty than the Suncat but never felt uncomfortable. She moved well and I imagine the Sport would be even lighter. I don't think anyone would be disappointed in the boat.
