Maybe my rudder is missing a bushing, but I couldn't tighten it down this past weekend (I jammed a penny in temporarily, but it ended up in the bottom of the lake!). I know that Bruce fabricated a significant system (that I'd like to see pictures of again), but I wondered if others have tried a simple line on the front edge of the rudder that is cleated up on the tiller? My Buccaneer had a similar system. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Jim,
I posted photos in the SC weather helm thread. That's the current version, I'll post some photos of pre-foiled versions here.

I agree that a simple downhaul would work. I considered it, but didn't have a way to run the line that I liked. I would like a turning block on the rudder head or gudgeons. I know some have used a bungee that's under tension when the rudder is up, and holds the rudder down underway. I'd upgrade the uphaul as well, with a turning block and cam cleat.
I look forward to seeing what other's have done!
