Title: Mast Deck Hinge, better option?
Post by: MacGyver on August 09, 2019, 06:48:05 PM
Hey all,

Within the last few years a sailor here modified their CP19 I think to use a hinge on the deck, and was in the process of doing that. I am looking for that sailor, or options to help make the boat a little more trailor sailor ready for myself. Not that it isnt now, but i feel like I owe it to myself to make it better overall.

Please let me know if this was you, or below if you have options let me know those as well even if it is not a 19, I may be able to scale it up or down accordingly.

Thank you all!

Mac

Hey Mac!!

Pedro aka PeterG did just that on his old 23. It was a hinged tabernacle that he got somewhere, I can find out. It's something I've been wanting to do to my 23-when I get around to it!
Sounds like you are keeping the boat...good for you!!

Here's a picture of the tabernacle hinge on my 1997 CP16 and the mast resting on the gallows.
I thought it was an original option, but Gerry Hutchins says they did not make this ship alt. So, I am guessing Keith Scott did the hinge and gallows for a previous owner. Works great for me. Easy rigging and travel.

Jason, you might check with the Sailboat Co. they convert the 19 rig to eliminate the backstay. I considered that when I was looking for a 19. it would make rigging much easier .
