I am very excited to get my new to me 81 C16 out on the water in the next few weeks as the weather continues to warm. I am upgrading from a 2008 Hunter 170, my wife and I wanted a stable, solid, trailerable, pocket cruiser that we could take our 2 small children on for day sailing. After we take the boat out a few times without the kids we would like to take them out but are considering adding some kind of railing around the cockpit (we don't have life lines). Does anyone have photos of railings (wood or metal) mounted on top of the coamings? I saw an old thread with photos attached, but the photos are no longer in the actual conversation thread.
This is an example of my homemade coaming rails. I made them more for a back rest than for kid safety, so I padded them. They are made fro(//)m old deck boat railing and bent to fit. Rails like this are usually readily available from boat shops that salvage old boats. Teak rails are much more aesthetically appealing but don't sit as high.

Thanks for the photo Pat. Those railing are exactly what I have in mind. Have you ever hear of anyone using teak loop handles on the top edge of the coaming?
