Title: SUNCAT ON THE OCEAN
Post by: sjaffess on March 17, 2019, 01:56:38 PM
I have been sailing a Suncat on a lake for the last 12 years. We are thinking of moving to a condo in Boynton Beach. The condo has docks available and is not far from the Boynton inlet. I have sailed larger boats in the ocean in Cape Cod (Day 27) I am wondering how the Suncat will handle the ocean.  I have been using an electric trolling motor on the lake which will not be strong enough on the ocean. Any comments on Suncat ocean sailing would be welcome and suggestions about engine make and size also.

Go for it, just keep a close eye on the weather and don't venture to far from shore.

When I have to replace my engine it will be with the Tohatsu LPG / Propane 5 HP 25" Sail Pro model.

This tank may slide into the fuel locker, double check the height.

Sailed our SC all over Nantucket and Vineyard Sound.  If the chop gets over 5 feet it can get fun downwind.  Sail at angles.  Propane OB works great.  5 hp LS Lehr.  Just drive.
