Title: Picnic Cat Rudder Bolts
Post by: captbob57 on February 15, 2019, 09:53:40 AM
I was glad to see that Com-Pac uses 1/4 " stainless steel bolts with nylon nuts for the rudder. I haven't taken them off yet but that's what they look like to me. On my boat the top bolt has the hex head on top with the nut on the bottom, where the bottom bolt has the nut on top with the hex head on the bottom. Is this proper? I would think that both bolts should be the same with the head on top and nut on the bottom. Does either way matter? How are the bolts on your boats? Just wondering.

Mine came both hex heads up. I don't think it matters, except it would be easier to feed them from the top and let gravity work for you.

I just checked and I think I know what happened. My bolts are 3 1/4". If the top one is installed first, there's only about 3" vertically to fit the lower bolt in. If the lower bolt is installed first, there's no problem inserting the top bolt.

Bruce,
Thanks for your reply. Good job figuring out the bolt puzzle!
