Title: Maiden Voyage by Tania Aebi
Post by: MGS on January 25, 2019, 03:21:41 PM
Maiden Voyage was a very inspirational book.  It's about an 18 year old girl who circumnavigated the world solo aboard a 26' boat.  She had little experience and was unsure of herself, but over the 2-1/2 year voyage grew to be a strong sailor and person.  It's a great read.  I checked the book out at my local library, so it was free :)

Has anyone else read this book?

I agree

Great book.  I read it several decades ago.  If I recall it is also a good book about sailing in a small vessel - about 26feet as I recall. She circumnavigated the globe.  Maybe was the youngest person at the time to do it.

I would absolutely call it an inspirational book and a good read.

Its one of my favorites.  I gave one to my daughter as an inspirational gift.  After recommending it to a woman at work many years ago, she tells me she still reads it every year.  I even looked at a contessa 26 after reading it.

Fabulous book. I think she writes for some major sailing rag these days.

i read an article, if i recall correctly, of her's about taking her two teenage sons on the same voyage.  She had divorced her husband (who she met on her "maiden voyage") and sailed with her sons half way around and their father sailed with them the rest of the way.

My TV slanted brain went to the documentary called Maiden Voyage about a young solo sailor. Was getting confused reading everyone's post about decades again, etc. Time to turn the tube off and open a book! Thanks for the recommendation!

She has a monthly column in The Cruising Outpost, which used to be Latitudes and Attitudes. She still does charters and deliveries.

Be careful when reading books like the Made Voyage.

20 years ago I read the book that changed my boating life.

It was about her voyage on her Contessa 26, sail #324.  I had some questions so I was inspired to call Tanya at her sailing school to discuss her old boat, Varuna.  She was a great sport and indulged me with interesting conversation and sent me a signed copy of her book.

Long story short, I ended up buying a Contessa 26, sail #320 and still have it.

Don't say I didn't warn you.
