Title: Exact Cabin Dimensions ?
Post by: pianoman52 on December 02, 2018, 09:14:50 AM
Hello fellow 23 lovers. I'm looking to purchase my first 23, and sail her on Long Island NY's shallow south shore bays. Before driving 5+ hours to see the craft, I was wondering if someone can point me to some measurements on her cabin. I'm a taller guy at 6' 1, and curious if I'll fit in the V berth. Is there a place with this and other interior dimensions (cabin height, interior beam, length of side benches, length/height of aft compartment)?  These gorgeous boats seem to have a devoted and loyal following, and I know it won't be AS roomy as the other dumb boats I'm looking at (catalina or macgregor 25.) Just curious If i could find some hard numbers anywhere.  If anyone is in the LI area and doesn't giving me a tour, that'd be amazing too ;) Thanks!

Matt

My best advice to you would be to test sail each of these vessels. Consider your intended use for your future acquisition, day sailing or cruising, trailer or slip? I am guessing that you are looking at water ballast models of the boats you identified. The shoal keel of the Com-Pac will always work, and never create mechanical problems. From a sailing aspect, get out in a little wind a see how the boat performs. Is it tender or develops excessive weather helm? None of these boats have stand up headroom for a 6 footer, but I am sure that the bunks can accommodate you. If you are looking for a waterborne camper, compare cabins. If you want the best sailing experience then you need to sail each for comparison.

One other factor not frequently mentioned is the value retention of Com-Pacs. I believe this is due to owner satisfaction, and durability of these vessels.

Good luck with the search for your perfect boat. Just envision the future with lazy days spent on the water doing whatever impulse dictates.

Hi Matt and welcome. I have a 1985 23/2 that I've owned for 12 years and I thoroughly enjoy her! I'll be visiting the marina later today so I'll take some measurements for you.
