It is a fact that if teak is covered any coating will last, and if it is not no coating will last. I've always avoided covers on the exterior teak because of the extra time to remove and replace when using the boat. However, now considering going ahead with them so I can return to Ephifanes which is my preferred coating on exterior teak when protected. Hand rails are simple, main hatch drop boards and guides are also no problem, my custom fuel locker cover would be easy, even the bowsprit teak offers no challenge but the main hatch guide rails and the eyebrows would be difficult. So I'm considering a cabin trunk cover that would go down over the eyebrows and cover all other teak on the trunk.
Has anyone done this specifically on a 23? what worked? how did you split it for the mast? snaps? zipper? Velcro.
Ease of installation and removal most important. Use of permanently attached snap clips to stanchion bases maybe. want to come up with something that can be removed quickly and put in the dock box, then attached quickly when coming back in. Made from Sunbrella.
Hi Brackish, I just bought my 23 last May. It is a 1990. The outside teak was and still is in like new condition. The boat came with a canvas cover that goes over the cockpit and the cabin top. At first I thought this cover was going to be a pain to put on and take off. Once I got use to it, it is easy and quick. I discovered that it is the difference that keeps the boat looking showroom new. If you would like some pics, I'll try to post them.
I would love to see pics - I'm looking for something for myself for my 19 - although I'm thinking custom cover for entire boat - my favorite is Ephifanes as well however since boat will be kept outside thinking teak oil every few months

Hopefully the weather will dry up so I can go up and take measurements and sketch up a design. Then, a trip to see my mother before Christmas who just happens to live about five miles from Sailmakers Supply, in Gautier, MS, to pick up what I'll need and get advice for this project. Give me a winter project if I can bear to get that dreaded sewing machine out and go through the learning curve again.
