Title: Cabin sole (concrete ballast sealer)
Post by: Radicalcy on March 01, 2007, 07:38:36 PM
In the process of repainting and refitting my 1980 CP-16, I removed the mat and resin cover that was glassed in to seal the ballast.
I removed it because it was delaminated from the concrete, and water was standing in the void.
I have some minor areas where the surface concrete is flaking, and need to reseal. I'm thinking that I'll use self leveling hydraulic concrete, and once cured, seal with epoxy and reglass.
My question is, was this original to the boat? Do other owners have this fiberglass covering over the length of the ballast?

I have it ...
Just check out the thumbnail pics in my last post under keel repair for Cricket. You'll see the edges of it in the images.

Hi rad, Replaceing the glass on the ballast seems to be a standard part of refurbishing the old 16's. It sound like your on the right path with your repairs. Good luck and happy sailing!
