My boat with a new main(Peak great price but a story there) and old but good 135 roller fulling Jib I cannot get it to tack though less than 110 degrees with main and Jib.
It will sit in a grove on a close reach and sail itself exceptionally well slight weather helm on ruffer on starboard and in a smaller grove on port with no weather helm on the rudder.
With the main only it seems at times to tack very close to the wind tacking though about 70 deg or some times even 60 deg.
I have the track over ground downloaded into Google Earth and can see the true course over ground.
The boat dose crab significantly close the wind with both sails but with main only does not seem to.
I am curious what other peoples experience with sailing to windward is.
The above in in 10-15 kt winds, which is usually what I have at Port Isabel Texas.
Thanks
David
