Title: clr new news
Post by: kickingbug1 on June 11, 2018, 10:45:33 AM
well we had some cancellations for the clr this year and it looks like we are down to 10 people tops and probably just 6 boats. if this causes anyone else to cancel please let me know. some of you guys have a long drive so i understand. sarah and i talked it over and decided to have the event anyway for whoever shows up. we will adapt and overcome. contact me at fordtruck52@yahoo or 6185883889. we will still have the races, dinners, cornhole tourney and awards banquet (trophies too)

I sure hope this is just a one year set of circumstances for everyone, because I was really looking forward to making this event next year.  Unfortunately can't make it work this year.   I am getting to the Leech Lake Regatta in August though.  Any other fellow Compacteers been to that race weekend??

We were at best a "maybe" to attend CLR without our Eclipse.  Other local commitments raised their heads, so we won't be able to attend.

We'd still like to attend sometime.

Thanks.
Ron

well the clr (10 edition) is next week. i think we have everything ready. the awards dinner will be catered by a local bbq place (good stuff), the race markers are done ( i tested them---they work!). since those coming have been here before it was pretty easy. remember the "theme" (not my idea) for the awards dinner is "pirates of the caribbean ". also another reminder, when you get in call me at 317) 292 o258 or 618) 588 3889 so i can come up and help rig and launch. i will put my boat in on Monday. its always easier to have someone drive your vehicle over to the marina parking lot while you run your boat over to your slip. from what i can tell the weather is supposed to be cooler (it has been very hot recently). i think we will be looking at 80s. the lake is in good shape and we should be able to wade at our south shore raft up spot near the dam. the other spot near point 5 is near perfect. if we do the "cruise to the silo" that will be our raft up spot for the day. if the conditions are good we should have a night sail opportunity as well. be very careful on the roads. if you have a problem let us know. see you all next week.      steve and sarah bender

I'm just about ready to go except I cannot find the official CLR beer (PBR) anywhere.  Has it become a local beer or only sold in liquor stores?

i tried pbr a few times and couldn't really "aquire the taste" and i couldn't tell you where to get some. since bob wont be attending i don't think it is necessary anyway.  hmmmmm official clr beer      hahah   good one

Can't believe you can't find PBR.  In the upper Midwest it's right next to all the Bud, Coors, Miller, and other pale lagers.  In Minnesota we don't have a choice but to go to a liquor store unless you want to drink beered down water (<3.2%).

In all the hipster towns I've been to like Portland OR, PBR is the only American lager on tap!  Don't know what they see in it but it's popular even amongst the stout and porter drinkers!

Slode: Trust me, he doesn't want to find it!!
Tis true what Kick alluded to: I won't be at this years CLR. It was not an easy decision but both time and money are in short supply and while I do own a Flux Capacitor which takes care of the time issue, I am not a counterfeiter so I can't just print some bucks when I need 'em.
I will truly miss this epic event, epic meaning not neccessarily large but important and fun! I've attended two so far and driving the 14 hours from NJ was not too long considering the laughs, sailing and most important-lifelong friends. Enjoy the CLR friends- I will hoist my PBR in your direction!!!

I am with Bob23....  Not able to attend but wish all a great few days of sailing and good times.  I have only attended once but really hope to start a string next year.   Enjoy everyone - Sail On,  Al

I hereby concede defeat by default to the epic rowing race which was to take place at CLR this year between myself and the highly esteemable Kickingbug. I cannot make it...some will say that I'm chickening out of the race...could be true. As a token of good will, I will hereby offer my personal stash of PBR to someone...somewhere...sometime. Best to all of you!! In my heart, I will be there with you!!!

Have fun you guys, we wish we could be there.  Thanks for everything you do Kick and Admiral Sarah to make this event as fun as it is.

Hope we can make it next year and maybe even with a boat?!

wellthis year we had rather low attendance and the weather has been kind of stormy however, we had a great day on Monday with great wind and lower temps. sailed for about 4 hours plus and rafted up and swam at our spot near the south shore park and the dam. the meet and greet was wonderful at the winery with the big table for just us 8. excellent food and service (they do a great job). yesterday it looked like it would storm so we all went to breakfast uptown at the 50 café (wonderful and way too much). ask roger about the horseshoe breakfast he had. the waitress told him that to date no one ever finished it---even teenage boys. we headed out around noon and again got lucky with storms passing us to the south and north and great winds (we topped 5.5 knots). again another nice raft up and then back to the marina. went to st rose for a fantastic meal and back to the marina for some corn hole competition. dan has found his game and jasons new girlfriend Lindsey got her groove on too. today it will be the cruise to the silo and we should have good wind (i think 10 out of the west. should be an easy beam reach. then we will raft up near point 5, (great little cove with a clean sand bottom). of course during the week we have had the lake to ourselves except for a few fisherman and it has been peaceful and quiet. we have also had the club to ourselves as well. hope to get the race in on Thursday but they are looking for light wind. more to come.

race day was good and bad. a little wind helped  everyone get to the windward mark with no trouble. matt smoked everyone on the downwind leg. that hunter 19 is a great light wind boat for sure. the wind completely died so we all adjorned to point one for a bit of swimming. it was hot. Thursday night we were hit by one heck of a storm. i pulled my boat and barely got it taken down before the storm hit (but i did make it). the awards dinner went very well (sarah did her usual majic and put the whole thing together herself. the costumes were great. a nice group of pirates and one parrot, jasons  girlfriend, Lindsey was a standout in her parrot costume and deserved her prize for her great work. and she sure can play cornhole as well. dans costume was a guy from Indiana. lynn said that he was our "captive". the storm rolled in and added to the fireworks. a good time was had by all. trophies were awarded. i want to thank everyone who came. you folks are very special to sarah and i. and it was a pleasure to host the event for the tenth time.

Man am I getting old, left a great party a day early. Had a great time with good weather, cold beer and lots of fantastic food. Yes we went to breakfast and they brought me what I ordered but three or four times what anyone could or should eat, and I love to eat as much as I love to sail. Steve and Sarah did a fantastic job of organizing the hole week. Unless they plant me in the ground I'll be there next year and you should be too.

ROGER

Thanks Steve and Sarah for a great time!! The sailing was good, the food better and the sailors the best. I thoroughly enjoyed the downtime swimming the coves and visiting. The race marks were marvelous and the race start went off without a hitch. What a great week and event. See you all on the water...Matt
