Title: Regular or Full-Batten Mainsail?
Post by: Minicruiser19 on May 22, 2018, 08:41:44 PM
It's nearing launch time here in the Northeast and since the previous owner replaced the roller-furled headsail with a 135% Rolly Tasker headsail last year (in 5 oz dacron sailcloth) I want to replace the original mainsail with at least a heavy-duty Rolly Tasker mainsail in 6 oz dacron (about $450) but I am also considering whether for an extra $150 ($600 total) it would be better to get a full-batten (4 battens) mainsail (also in the heavier 6 oz sailcloth) and was wondering if any of you fellow CP19 owners have experience with upgrading to a full-batten mainsail and whether you think it is worth the extra money. Cheers!

i for one will get a full batten sail the next time i get a new one. i think they hold their shape better and flake easier. only drawback can be price and the possibility of catching on the backstay (wont happen if it is measured correctly).

I have not bought a main for my 19, but have converted other boats to full batten loose foot and wa very happy. Full nattens can carry more roach, BUT YOU DON'T WANT THAT ON A 19.
