Hummmmm!  Twice the HP of a Universal 12 with only 71 more pounds.  The is very tempting.  Cost of a new installation is nearly $10,000 - that is a bunch of Boat Units.

Patric, Thanks for the scoop.

regards charlie

Or source a good running universal M25 with parts that can be had from the industrial kubota supply cheaper than the agricultural route.  I have a post on this from years back I believe.

Whatever happened to that dead link?

Second time I've tried to look it up.

I just yanked a Universal M25XP out of a 1987 Catalina 30 ... bad cylinder liners leaking through.  My machine shop says that's a VERY common failure, but usually on the industrial side of the equation where the bobcat runs 1000+ hrs per year.  This one probably doesn't have 1,000 hrs, but who knows?  I replaced their instrument panel six years ago; recommended some other rewiring and pissed them off (i guess?); but now six years later they report another uncertified electrician told them the wiring was crap 3 years ago so they let him do (something) at that time.

Either way, the M25XP is toast.

And for the money, and how they use the boat (daysailing only), I'm hoping they take sage advice and put in an electric motor with lithium batteries, and never have to worry with oil changes, fuel filters, and impellers again ...
