looks like this year we will be missing a few of our long time sailors. it is still early but sarah and I would like to get confirmation on who will be attending in june. you can e mail me or call 317)292-0258 or contact me here. I'm thinking that this year we will have a windward- leeward race which should make it easier to navigate. I have a new idea for stand up markers with orange flags which I will be working on soon. I would still like to do the "cruise to the silo" and a night sail. as always we will have the "meet and greet" at the winery, corn hole tourney and of course the awards dinner. I know that john, roger, dan, rich, and matt are coming for sure so anyway let me know. and lets get some new blood involved
Yes, I will be there. Most likely with a Compac 16.
Rich
I'm old blood...but I'll be there!
I do plan to be there, working diligently to be able to work on the boat some to be sure I am ready for the event!
Mac
ZOWIE!!! T'would be great to see you again, Mac!!
guess who wants to be a crew member jason
i know that in the past there has been some race confusion (my fault i think). anyway this year we will run a simple windward- leeward race. the marks will be set approximately 1 mile apart. i am in the process of making stand up markers with orange bike flags on them so they should be relatively easy to spot. where they are set depends on wind direction, with the start and finish mark set at last years location. each boat class will be given a start time on the clock. it will be the responsibility of each skipper to make the start at that time. i have crewed on larger boats before that have used this method. it works very well. all you need is a watch or cell phone. this will eliminate the le-mans start and make it easier for solo sailors. for those of you who have not attended before and have not raced you need not worry about collisions. to date we haven't had a close call. the race is just for fun and photo ops anyway. the cruise to the silo should be a very enjoyable event. with a west or northwest wind it should require little course change. after the boats round the silo they head west to a very nice raft up spot. you can anchor your boat in a shallow sand bottomed cove and either stand up in the water or float. we have used this in the past. there is no better spot on the lake. the two dinners and cornhole tourney will be similar to years past. hopefully we may also get a night sail in this year. there will also be prizes and trophies. this is our 10th clr and i know events such as this only have a certain lifespan so lets make this years a special one. to those friends of ours who cannot attend, we will do our best to carry on the tradition and try and fill the void. all will be honored with numerous toasts ill bet.
Is there a rowing category?
Bob, if there was a race for rowboats, oar not, you would OARdinairly come in first Oar, last Oar, oar both, since you would be the only oarnry crumudgeon paddling his butt at COARlyle Lake.
PersoOARly, I'd rather bOARd a competing vessel during the races. Oar wish Oar could be there.
Oar! Oar! Oar! Oar! (pirate laughing,). OOOAAAARRRR, Matey!
Oar not! Lest ye be bOARed silly.
TG
There's no way anyone can be bOARd silly around here! Silly, yes- bOARd, no. Sure wish you could be there but it'll be fun to catch up at CBMWG!!
and i thought bob would be bringing a little sailboat and show us some seamanship.
i booked these guys as the entertainment for this years CLR

hey, i was gonna get a snare drum and a cymbal to help with your "stand up". plus --are you and joanie coming this year? i know that you are going to the north channel to the scene of the "shipwreck"
got word that we may have some new sailors from lake of the Ozarks attending this years clr. nothing like new faces and boats and need i mention---competition for the "cup"
Kick, we won't know to the last minute.
Working a lot of o.t. and finishing house projects. If we show, it will only be for a couple days.
well of coarse it wont be the same if we don't see you and joan but if you don't make it we understand. when i retired i made a vow to "forget what the word work meant"
Hotel booked...I'll be there!
practicing my rowing
I know the CLR is scheduled for 'last week of June', but what does that really mean? Will some of it be the weekend prior, or the end of that week. If we can join you for 2-3 days, which two might be the most interactive? If we were to bring our Eclipse, that would guarantee either: no wind, 50mph winds, heavy rain, freezing cold, or stiffling heat (grin)
Right now, doubt we can bring our Eclipse as it would be over 500miles each way, but if someone has some local knowledge on motel accomodations (not a week long resort stay please), that would help.
Last I heard, no other Eclipse owners had signed up.
Feel free to PM me if you wish. THANKS.
Ron
the last week is the 25th through the 29th. some sailors show up on the sunday prior and leave Thursday night. many stay into the following weekend. Monday night (the 25th) is the "meet and greet" at Bretz winery (Illinois 127 Carlyle), Tuesday we race (simple windward-leeward course. the Tuesday race is a warm up for the CLR cup race on Thursday. both race take place late morning . boats are given a perf rating and are assigned a start time (by the clock), sailors use the honor system for the start. everyone will have a map showing the course, i am working on stand up markers with orange flags. distance between the marks will determine how many laps we have to sail. we usually do 4 miles. wind direction will dictate the location of the windward mark. the start line is fixed. after each race we generally anchor up for swimming and lunch. Tuesday night we go out to eat at a local restaurant followed by q dock party. wedsday is pretty much do what you want. that evening we have a pizza night at the marina club room. we have had a "cornhole" tourney at that time. Thursday after breakfast we meet up at the docks and sailors get their start time for the clr race. we raft up after the race for swimming and lunch and decide who won. by the way the word "race" is in no way a serious thing, its more a photo op, but there will be trophies and prizes. the awards dinner Thursday night is at the marina club room. food is catered and we try to recoup the cost with a donations box. for those leaving on Friday we will be available to help retrieving boats and moving vehicles and trailers. when you arrive you are encouraged to call me at 317) 292-0258. i will show up and help rig, launch and park you vehicle. call if you have questions.
THKS.
That's exactly the data I was looking for.
I'll study that and see if we can fit in a couple of days there. Doubt we bring our boat, but would be fun to meet/eat with folks.
Ron, KS
Hope you can find time to show up for the CLR Ron, it's a great time. I can not talk my wife into going so am on my Sun Cat alone. You are more than welcome to come sail with me. When checking the calendar saw that the 27 is a full moon. After meeting for super and having a couple beers its hard to think about going out sailing, I must be getting a little older.
ROGER
Thks Roger,
Appreciate the invite. Hope that we can fit it in. Will post here if it works out.
I'd love to pull our Eclipse up there, but my experience is a long tow, too much wind, too little wind, etc, and sometimes, it is easier to leave the boat at home.
Ron
i have to tell you ron that even though you are more than welcome to come, would be great if you would bring your boat ( the perfect trailer sailor in my opinion) and we are always a little shy of vessels with lots of sailors. it turns out that some of the local sailing association members are now interested so it might be a better turnout than expected. and their is an eclipse in their fleet. so please reconsider about bringing the boat. failing that we welcome you too with open arms and promise a good time is to be had. thanks steve an sarah bender.
Thanks Steve,
We've not ruled out bringing the boat if we come, but our bigger plan calls for us to go up to northen Minnesota the week following. Up there, Mosquitoes might just haul our boat off, so I'd not want that.........................
